In the field of environmental progress the conflict between anecdote and statistics is so flagrant that most public understanding on the subject is upside down.  We worry about the wrong things, fail to worry about the right things, and fail to acknowledge and expand the things that are going well.

For decades at Rockefeller University Jesse Ausubel has assembled global data and trends showing that humanity may be entering an exceptionally Green century.  The most important trend is “land-sparing”—freeing up ever more land for nature thanks to agricultural efficiency and urbanization.  Ausubel notes that we are now probably at “peak farmland“ (so long as we don’t pursue the folly of biofuels).  Forests are coming back everywhere in the temperate zones and in many tropical areas, helped by replacing wild logging with tree plantations.  Human population is leveling rapidly and we are now probably at “peak children.”  Our energy sources continue to “decarbonize,” and a long-term “dematerialization” trend is reducing the physical load of civilization’s metabolism.

In the ocean, however, market hunting for fish remains highly destructive, even though aquaculture and mariculture are taking off some of the pressure.  In this area, as in the others, rigorous science and inventive technology are leading the way to the mutual flourishing of humanity and nature.

"Nature is Rebounding: Land- and Ocean-sparing through Concentrating Human Activities " was given on January 13, 02015 as part of Long Now's Seminar series. The series was started in 02003 to build a compelling body of ideas about long-term thinking from some of the world's leading thinkers. Madrid’s Analogical Force continues its run proudly to present ‘Welkin EP’, second in the catalogue and first from Niagara Falls, NY-based Reid Dunn (well known as WISP) under his misterious DWAALLICHT alias. Many -like us- have been looking forward long time for this stuff, now the wait is over.

Just when the 10th anniversary of the still acclaimed ‘NRTHNDR’ album on now-defunct Sublight label, and six years after ‘We Miss You’ and ‘The Shimmering Hour’ on the Rephlex camp, the Aphex Twin-approved producer is back exploring spectral acidish territories, intricate drum patterns with thick synths, nervous breaks and rhythms, nostalgic rising-falling melodies...waving this elements to his will. It seems that Reid has deemed the time right to do what he does best. A record so immune to contemporary styles and aesthetics are almost by definition timeless, and it's tempting to call ‘Welkin EP’ that.

Dwaallicht doesn’t hide his influences; AFX, Squarepusher and Mike Paradinas are obvious reference points, but add Tangerine Dream, Phuture 303 or Mr Fingers to the mix and you’ll get a sense of the scope of Reid’s personal vision. 

Braindancers: ‘Welkin EP’ will all remind you exactly why you loved this talented guy for so long and why hes one of the most uncompromising artists working in electronic music this days.

...Absolutely essential!

Flume ’s “Wall Fuck” was one of the more experimental tracks on the album which might’ve been the reason it didn’t get as much attention as some of the other tunes, so @Ramzoid and I decided to take a stab at remixing it. Hope you like it :)

Laurie Anderson profiles one of the most extraordinary writers and thinkers of the 20th century. William Burroughs was a leading figure of the Beat generation, hugely influential among musicians and artists from the 1970s to the present day and responsible for the dark side of American culture entering mainstream consciousness.

The programme features recordings of Burroughs's spoken word performances over a soundscape of noise and music from artists whom he inspired.

i_o emerged out of nowhere in December 2017 with the slurry sleuther "Warning" on mau5trap's We Are Friends, Vol. 7 compilation, quickly following that up with the prog-infused Tommy Trash collaboration "Oxygen," and finally a Virtual Self remix for Jauz's Bite This Xmas Compilation. That all happened within three weeks of his artistic debut, so naturally we wondered what was going on, and started trying to make contact with the enigmatic i_o.

My first time at LIB and what a fun experience It was! A special mention to the Favela bar crew for having me play. I enjoyed every moment and will definitely be back again next year! This was a 2pm - 330pm set. I didn't know what to expect so I said i'd just vibe it out... Turned out to be a really fun few hours! :)

Drumcode has become a label synonymous with some of the most-cutting edge and forward-thinking techno over the last 20 years. Their artists include both emerging and established names, and one of those well recognised is Enrico Sangiuliano. Now announcing the very first concept album of his career.

The prolific Italian producer has been catapulted into the limelight after the runaway success of his past releases, and now Biomorph is born.

A very special concept album designed to take the listener on a journey of evolution. A musical adaptation describing how biological and technological advances over numerous generations of time have all started from the same first step in our own biological journey.

Divided into 4 parts, Organisms opens with atmospheric tones, gradually blending complex textures and timbres to begin the evolutional process. The beginning of this section combines full sounding arrangements before stripping it all back to basics. From here it dissolves into the atmosphere. Organisms then progresses into a break-beat influenced, down tempo track using synths to add complexity to the straight, broken rhythms.

Galactic, futuristic elements are found in both tracks in Cosmic Forces. Upbeat, groovy, electronic synths resonate, before ‘Hidden T’ brings the tension to get things pumped up with stratospheric swirls and twirls to lay down one of the most mind meltingly deep drops.

Metamorphosis is mysterious, its opening beat is a deep and piercing tone that sends the listener into a sensory awareness of their surroundings before breaking into a fully charged, techno track, with Enrico’s trademark sounds and textures.

All evolution has an ending.

Two Probabilities shows the positive, starting out evocative and emotional, with a gentle harmony, gazing towards a ‘New Dawn’. On the other side of the spectrum lies the negative. This is influenced with a rhythm that articulates the beat of death, mathematical, cold and metallic in texture, it shows the unsustainability of its nature, with a hectic, anxious break beat influenced ending.

The digital version also features a bonus track; 'A Further Existence'.
