We've started a radio show!

Welcome to the inaugural episode where one of the label founders, The Drifter takes us on a journey through a variety of his current favourites.

Radio is a medium that has had a big influence over all of us throughout our lives. As opposed to a straight up DJ mix, radio shows allow the curator to experiment with different sounds and directions outside of what they might regularly be known for.

This is really the aim of this series, to invite friends to share
different recordings with us and allow them to take it what ever
direction they want. We're excited to get going and hope you enjoy the results.

Maeve Radio 001 - The Drifter

A meandering mix for Radiomade.ie recorded in Dublin at Radiomade HQ over a few pints of Guinness with the gent Jack Olohan. lots of new music, newly acquired music or just tunes i love that i haven't had the chance to play out yet.

The Drifter is Mark Flynn, an Irish producer, DJ and singer. After an upbringing dabbling in different musical pursuits, from bands and choirs to folk and traditional, a love for electronic music was born.

The Drifter's dj style, like his productions, definitely lean towards the hypnotic, melodic and emotive side of electronic music. No matter what genre he is playing. House, Techno, Disco. He learned his craft from hours of djing in bars and clubs and running clubnights. One such clubnight was Passion Beat, a night he ran in Berlin for over 3 years with his buddy Mano Le Tough. It gathered a loyal, steady following and quickly became known for it's two residents and the guest artists they booked. 
He runs the record label Maeve together with two of his close friends, Mano Le Tough and Baikal. All three share a similar passion for deep emotive music, and the label has quickly become one to watch..

Frau Blau Radio #028 ─ The Drifter

"The Drifter" is Mark Flynn, an Irish producer, dj and singer. He released his first solo work, the 'Lovers' EP, on Permanent Vacation in late 2012.
His own vocals on the EP caught the attention of some of his peers, resulting in him recording vocals for Good Guy Mikesh & Filburt, Jacob Korn, Slow Hands, Erdbeerschnitzel and Baikal. He runs the record label Maeve together with two of his close friends, Mano Le Tough and Baikal. All three share a similar passion for deep emotive music. The label has quickly become one to watch, releasing music from Baikal, and remixes from Ripperton and Dixon. 

It seems like 2014 is shaping up to be a big year for The Drifter, so we have pleasure in submitting the following podcast of the The Drifter. Cheers!

RIOTVAN RADIO #24 | The Drifter

Next up is a marathon mix from Irish producer and DJ, The Drifter. After an upbringing dabbling in different musical pursuits, from bands and choirs to folk and traditional, a love for electronic music was born from ventures into Dublin nightlife. A move to Berlin ensued soon after.

He excelled whilst DJing at his own night Passion Beat which he ran with Mano Le Tough for 3 years in Berlin. Together they built a strong residency and from this set up their own label, Maeve, along with another close friend, Baikal. They all share the same love for emotive deep music and this has been at the forefront of the label’s releases and led to ties with heavyweight labels such as Innervisions.

In late 2012 he released his first solo work, the ‘Lovers’ EP, on Permanent Vacation. His 'Again' EP on Maeve came out earlier this year along with two tracks on Permanent Vacation. Keep an eye out for him and his label; they sure are ones to watch in the long run.

Berlin-based, aptly-named, Irishman The Drifter has made a name for himself as an creator of emotive beats and weaver of hypnotic sets. Through his label, Maeve (run alongside pals Mano Le Tough and Baikal), The Drifter has pushed this sound even further, with offerings such as his forward-thinking Again EP, released back in April.

The Drifter, otherwise known as Mark Flynn, is an Irish DJ, producer, and singer raised in a countryside town near Dublin. Growing up, Flynn would dabble in choirs and rock bands alongside close friend Mano Le Tough, before going to university and being exposed to dance music. Today The Drifter is a fond purveyor of the melodic and mesmerising breed of electronic music, and is now based in the thriving city of Berlin where he runs the Maeve label alongside co-founders Mano Le Tough and Baikal – a label which despite being in its infancy has already hosted names such as Matthew Dekay, Dixon and Ripperton.

As well as Maeve, his own productions have appeared on imprints such as Tigers On A Leash, Lossless, and Permanent Vacation, and his voice has even been lent to the likes of Jacob Korn, Slow Hands, Erdbeerschnitzel, Good Guy Mikesh & Filburt, and Baikal. Now, as the summer gets into full swing The Drifter’s momentum shows no symptoms of faltering, with a string of remixes set to arrive over the next few months whilst his touring schedule sees him live up to him musical moniker, touching down in America, Germany and Brazil in the near future.

As astute in the DJ booth as the studio, it's with a great deal of excitement that we welcome the Drifter to our podcast series as he shifts through the gears to deliver a fresh set of cuts for you to wrap your ears around.

Mark Flynn has been an active presence amidst electronic and dance music for many years, perhaps underrated by some we here at Ransom Note are well aware of his contribution to the genre. His own output is not prolific by any means, but timely and adept. This much is clear by the labels which have taken interest and upon which he has chosen to release his music - Permanent Vacation and Maeve, the latter of which he runs alongside Mano Le Tough and Baikal. Both imprints known for their reputable quality and his own music has fit perfectly amidst impressive back catalogues. 

Operating under the alias of The Drifter he acts as an unsung hero but is anything but, his own musical career is learned and based upon experience and a consistent quality.

The Drifter: The Ransom Note Mix

Mark Flynn AKA The Drifter hails from the picturesque seaside town of Greystones in County Wicklow, Ireland. An extraordinary number of electronic musicians have come from what is a relatively small geographical area with Mark being one of those shining lights. He arrived onto the scene with the “Lovers EP” in 2012 and although not necessarily as prolific as his peers when it comes to his original output, he makes his mark in many other ways.

Over the last year he started his excellent Cast Adrift Radio show on Dublin Digital Radio which really shows how invested he is in his art. Broadcasting genre-crossing adventures through a myriad of modern music, Cast Adrift is a great insight into how he feels and thinks about music. Production wise, remixes have become something Mark has really grown a talent for. Over the past year alone he has turned in 4 remixes for a variety of imprints, all met with solid and widespread acclaim. Mark also contributed to the Maeve compilation entitled Heavy Rotations Vol 1 – with his track “Three Words Max”, which turned out to be one of the most popular from the collection.

Mark is a founding member of the Maeve label along with close friends Mano Le Tough and Baikal – the imprint, born in Berlin in 2012, has steered a slow and steady course through the years, releasing highly thought out and interesting electronic music. The alchemy of three label heads is in itself what makes the label so special and sees it continue to garner support across the board. So looking to the future, its clear that Mark doesn’t intend on slowing down anytime soon. Original work will see the light of day in 2019 while continuing to tour both solo and with his label mates, bringing Maeve Showcases to all parts of the globe. Marks passion and enthusiasm for what he does is clear, this coupled with his infectious positivity, leaves you wondering what heights the Drifter could reach
