He followed the pull downward, toward the chamber the old researchers had carved into the bedrock. Runes still pulsed along the floor, alive in a way that had nothing to do with light. The project they’d named 'Latchpoint' hadn’t weakened in their absence. It had grown patient. It had learned.

The ranger stopped at the threshold, sensing the depth behind the veil, the slow stirring of something vast and hungry.
