My friend/brother Dragon Wil inspired this 6-hour session by sharing a song by the group "First Choice." This song took me down memory lane when, in the vibrant tapestry of New York City during the mid-70s, a revolutionary sound was brewing long before Hollywood caught on, the phenomenon we lovingly referred to as Hustle Music.

This infectious genre filled the air in bodegas and flowed from cars, blaring from boomboxes and streaming from portable 8-tracks, shaping the urban nightlife in exhilarating ways. With its pulsating four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, and lush arrangements featuring strings, brass, horns, electric pianos, and rhythm guitars, Hustle Music laid the foundation for what would soon be recognized as Disco. What began in the underground clubs evolved into a cultural movement that provided the soundtrack for a generation, dancing unapologetically to the rhythms of liberation and joy. It was not just a style of music; it was an acknowledgment of community and an expression of freedom, resonating in the hearts of those who found solace and ecstasy on crowded dance floors.

Fast forward to the 21st century, and the legacy of that initial fervor has morphed into a genre known as Nu-Disco, characterized by its revivalist spirit that pays homage to the lush disco soundscapes of the late 1970s while drawing inspiration from the synthesizer-heavy dance music of the 1980s and early 1990s. The early 2000s saw a resurgence of this genre, which continued to grow in popularity throughout the 2010s, captivating the hearts of both new and nostalgic audiences alike. Nu-Disco encapsulates the essence of dance music, inviting listeners to lose themselves in the groove, just as they did decades earlier. It serves as a bridge between generations, proving that the euphoric connection to music and movement endures, evolving yet remaining rooted in its predecessors.

For me, it all began with Esther Phillips’ soulful rendition of 'What a Difference a Day Makes,' the first record I played at a party that ignited my passion for DJing back in the summer of 1975. With only a trusty Sony mixer lacking a headphone jack, I ventured into the world of mixing. Since childhood, music has been my constant companion, but crossing the threshold from merely listening to expertly blending tracks became a feverish obsession.

The thrill of merging two songs while wordsmithing them to convey a message and watching the dance floor come to life is a feeling like no other. It was more than a hobby; it was my way of connecting with the vibrant cultural pulse of the city, a passion that would resonate through the years as the soundtrack to countless nights filled with laughter, movement, and the unique rhythms of life. In those moments, I wasn't just playing music; I was crafting an experience, one that mirrored the joy and resilience of the very city that gave birth to it all.

I'm a person who loves music and creating mixes of full-length songs for friends along my travels. I like to spin with no setup, just playing off the top of my head while in the moment.  

Currently, I am sharing the mixes with my long-time friends and a new audience. I come from listening to the great DJs at the Gallery, The Garage, The Loft, The Shelter, Zanzibar, The World, The Tunnel (early years), Baseline, Funhouse, The Fever, Bonds International, 1018, on WBLS (early 80's), and too many street parties to mention.  These were the times when people danced (worked it out) all night into the morning and not just bobbed side to side. 

My love for music started in the early 70s as a way to channel my energy in a more positive direction.  Music became my teacher about life's many situations. I gleaned a lot from music, which became a significant part of my lifestyle. Later my older brother started me DJing for private parties in NYC.  

All that training led me to DJing in my travels. Traveling since 1981, I visited 49% of this big blue marble sharing the NYC flavor.  This was when most NYC DJs didn't venture outside of the tri-state area making me a unique commodity in my travels to Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and too many more places to mention here.  None of these nights would have been as memorable if it wasn't for the support of my many friends worldwide!  All of you should stand up now and take a well-deserved bow!

I have DJ'd as the recording media changed through the years from 8-track, reel to reel, cassettes, DAT, Minidisk, CD, MP3, and so on ... This site is just a place to share my music of live club sessions (typically 5-8 straight hours of DJing) with my long time friends who have asked for me to convert their analog recordings to digital format for old time sake. You also get to experience my evolutionary growth in this field.

My humble mixes have the occasional recorded mistakes (record skips, rough mixes, etc.). This is unavoidable when recording live shows directly to the media as I honed my skills through the years. There are not any post-production corrections in the work, you hear the good, the bad, and the ugly mixes. 

All mixes were recorded live, mixes earlier than 2001 went direct to magnetic tape, and after 2001 were digitally captured while staying true to the music, and the dancers' way of life, as my mind's eye feels about the mix at that place in time.  I also made all attempts to pay respect to the artists who created the sound. 

The venue is my church, the DJ booth is my pulpit, and the music is my sermon.  Come on in and listen as I pour out my heart and preach!
