Upsydown is the sonic alter-ego of Heath McLean — a producer who weaves the power of psychedelic trance with funky basslines, grounding melodies, and the raw energy of heavy metal. The result? A high-voltage morning psy sound that feels both wild and strangely grounding — like dancing through chaos with a smile on your face.

The name Upsydown speaks to those surreal moments when life flips sideways — unexpected, messy, beautiful — and music becomes the compass.

Heath’s roots run deep in rhythm and rebellion. Growing up in a musical family in Western Australia, he was raised on guitar riffs and live percussion, eventually performing in a heavy metal band before electronic music came calling. When he landed in Brisbane in 1999, fate introduced him to a vibrant, open-hearted scene — and a beach doof in Northern NSW changed everything. Guided early on by mentors like DJ Synapse, Peta "Pumpkineata," Atma (Transylvania), and Short Circuit, Heath began to explore sound as a way to shift energy, mood, and mindsets.

He doesn’t box his sound into a single genre. Upsydown is a reflection of what moves him — a mix of psytrance, funk, groove, and emotional storytelling. Influences come not just from music, but from connection. “Some of the best conversations I’ve had were with artists crashing on our couch,” he says. One standout: Karen from Bubble, who helped him reimagine how to write — and reminded him of the sexy magic of the saxophone.

Over the years, Upsydown has brought his signature blend to stages and festivals across Australia, including Earth Frequency, Secret Sessions, Southern Oracle, Mayhem at RNA Showgrounds, Twisted Taco, Aloha, and Objectify. He’s supported legends like Infected Mushroom, Visual Paradox, DJ Bog, Terrafractyl, U-Recken, and many more.
