He has been known to release under a variety of different monikers, including the ambient-focused projects 3.11 and 355.11125. C.K is also part of several collectives, namely 2 Bit Crew, Maizena, and the infamous Regelbau crew, alongside Manmade Deejay, DJ Sports, Central, and more. A keen digger, C.K has a never-ending desire to find new music (and old) for his DJ sets. Whether performing solo or back-to-back, C.K is known to represent the relaxed but recognisable sound of all the labels and artists surrounding the Safe crew – usually with a nod a bit more towards the euphoric soundscapes of Dream House, with bouncy basslines and luscious melodies. Peach's DJ bio simply reads: "Ball of energy." And that's exactly what she brings each and every time. The Toronto-born, London-based DJ has made high impact, thrillingly eclectic sets an art form in the last few years having first started to turn heads with her brilliantly broad radio shows on NTS. Her dynamism also carries over into the music she has produced for labels like Midland's Intergraded and Shanti Celeste and Gramrcy's Peach Discs. 

Peach's signature passionate style runs all the way through this week's mix. From the flurry of jungle breakbeats that open it up to the prickly bass, frenetic club rhythms and euphoric rave of the midpoint, it's an unrelenting ride. The second half becomes more spaced out, with roomier cuts and hypnotic grooves carrying you through the night and into the next morning.

I heal myself weekly with the music I play. I listen deeply to the words buried within; the intention behind the lyrics either peppered-in or chorused. So much of the house music I connect with is rooted in love. It’s rooted in desire and hope. It’s rooted in narrative, “Do you want to trip with me?”, “I’ll outstretch my hand”, “I won’t forget about you, you won’t forget about me, we won’t forget about love vibrations!”. I listen to the messages to remind myself what I need and why I continue to move forward.

Vol.2 is represented in two mixing styles; long-melded blends (Trippin’ On Love) and fast, tight radio-style cut mixes with overdubs (Slammin’ With Love). Both convey the deep need for connection to one’s body and to others. It’s this connection energy that I find so powerful about house music’s healing magic.

I love it for the iconic vocal sample we’ve all heard, and the dreamy pads combined with a driving groovy beat. I also just love a track with many parts, a track that is a journey in itself.”

Some words on the mix with DJ Luv You:

Q. I noticed that you included a bunch of songs with lyrics about love throughout the mix which I’m guessing was no accident! Tell us a bit more about the theme you had in mind here, and what kind of feelings you were hoping to evoke?

A. I’ve always been attracted to the more joyful side of dance music and I think it just kinda happened in digging for records, as one does looking for a certain aesthetic of a label sticker or a particular artist. For me, the word ‘love’ just always seems catch my attention. I wanted to focus on that energy for this mix, something quite emotional and nostalgic while still maintaining that movement and euphoria about it that you just can’t help but move to!"

Q. What other inspiration did you draw upon when putting the mix together? Is there a particular sound, time period in dance music history or a memory of yours that connects all the different elements in one way or another? 

A. I wanted to create a bit of an origin story for myself. This 90s era of sound has really become an obsession and identity, it feels like the perfect link for me between the two other worlds of dance music that I love; The rare groove housey side and the new wave proggy electronic and trance influenced sound. You’ll find hints of both here in this mix.

I also just wanted to put as many of my favourite records into this mix for my own listening pleasure. When you're doing something for yourself first and foremost there’s a pureness to the way things flow together. This recording was just one of those improvised moments using a really lovely Condesa mixer and enjoying myself fully.

Q. Are there any records in the mix that are particularly close to your heart, and if so what’s the story behind them?

I feel like I rarely play a set without this record making an appearance haha, "When You Love Someone" by Daphne. Its versatility seems to fit any mood or space for me. Allowing me to move from disco into something more contemporary or as an emotive breath towards the end of a hot and heavy electronicy set.

Q. And finally, I see you’re on your way over to Europe at the end of the month. What do you have coming up over there that you’d like to tell us about?

A. Yes, super excited to be heading over till October for my first international tour, opening up with Kala Festival in Albania. Then a run of club shows and more summer festivals across France, Germany, Netherlands, UK and Bulgaria. Looking forward to skipping winter and enjoying the sun with what feels like every other naarm dj ;)

Just before the closure of or good ol’ store, we were honored to receive Shanti Celeste for a mix. The young Chile born, Bristol based artist brought a few friends and they went for a proper dig. It was her first visit to our store and she ran into a lot of stuff she wanted for a while. Wonderful! 

Shanti Celeste is a core member of Bristol’s Idle hands crew, placed firmly at the epicentre of Bristol's currently buoyant house music scene. From her work as a producer, DJ, vocalist, label-owner and promoter, she has already proved her salt as a multi-talented artist over a short period of time. Something we definitely taste from this mix!
