Dawn was created in 1996 in the vicinity of Montreux, Switzerland. Initially, the band consisted of six musicians:
René Degoumois, composition, vocals, guitar
Julien Vuataz, bass 
Théo Missillier, drums
Christophe Dony, keyboard
Frédéric Tschumi, violon
Nadine Nicolet, vocals

Between 1997 and 2000, Dawn performed on several occasions in the Montreux area, the most noteworthy concerts being a performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1998 and a concert with a twenty-strong choir in 1999.

In 2000, Nadine Nicolet and Frédéric Tschumi left the band. Then consisting of four members, Dawn recorded its first demo album “Happy New War” in 2002. In 2004, Christophe Dony left and was replaced by Nicolas Gerber on the keyboards. This aficionado of vintage keyboards brought new energy and a new sound with him. His musical arrangement skills also allowed the band to explore new aspects of progressive rock. This work led to the band’s second demo album in 2005: “Blind Communication”. In 2006, Dawn played the “Progsol” and “Montreux Prog Nights” festivals in Switzerland. The band also opened for Kansas and Fish that year.

At the end of 2006, drummer Théo Missilier decided to leave the band. Therefore, Dawn recorded its first album, “Loneliness” with a mercernary drummer: Patrick Dufresne. The recording took place early 2007 with sound engineer Olivier Charmillot. The album was released in November and showcased on the “Montreux Prog Nights” stage. Drummer Manuel Linder was in the audience and very interested by the band, which he joined shortly thereafter. In 2008, this is the configuration that played at the Prog’Sud festival in Marseille. “Loneliness” was very well received by the critics and sold well for a self-produced album.

A calmer period followed for Dawn, the band members tending to other artistic and family projects. In 2010, the first compositions for the next album were played in rehearsal and then live at a few concerts.
