My girlfriend and i moved house a few weeks ago - her brother had worked in the lost property at Barcelonna Airport years ago, and were looking through a box of his old things when I found a MP3 player. Huge Aphex fan, so when I saw 'gwely mernans", 'maltphace 6' and other drukqs tracks on it, started to wonder… Sent an email to a very nice (and very surprised!!) rephlex and have passed on the player. There are 236 tracks on there. Up to them to release, but some things are too beatiful to keep to yourself :-)

In answer to the questions I keep getting asked.
 ccai pt2 , part 1 is Drukqs, as that was the first thing I released that utilised computer controlled instruments, namely a modified Yamaha disklavier, 2nd gen and a couple of midi controlled solenoid based drum mechanisms I made just after I got the Disklavier.

I kept seeing them [disklaviers] in hotels, usually used to pipe muzak around the place and thought why doesn't anyone actually use one of these to compose music on and make beats etc! 
A couple of times when i saw them in hotel lobbies, i sneaked up to the disklavier and set it to play ultra low pitch and very slow, funny watching peoples reactions, it was down every corridor etc
NOBODY i spoke to back in around 1999 inc. people at yamaha knew how to connect one of these to a computer and I had to take my computer into Yamaha to try it out to see how fast these things could go, no info on the net then either.
The first year I burned out countless solenoids in the thing and learnt how to repair them myself, the more recent gen ones like I used at the barbican have temperature cut outs on them thankfully, i’ve still fried a few though!

Solid Steel (13th February) DJ Food - Selected Aphex Works

Unless you've been living under a rock recently you'll have heard the news that Aphex Twin unexpectedly uploaded 155 of his old and unreleased tracks to Soundcloud and made them downloadable for free. Starting from his earliest demos through to known live tracks, later jungle experiments and beyond, this is the motherlode that his fans have always wanted. DJ Food, a long-time Aphex fan, has been through the entire collection with a fine-toothed comb and selected his favourites for the first half of the show this week. The hit rate was high but he's has managed to cram 31 tracks into 85 minutes to mark this unique occasion and peppered the mix with vintage interview clips of Richard James talking about his music.

Solid Steel Radio Show 13/2/2015 Part 1 + 2 - DJ Food

Produced by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Sparklehorse, Giant Sand, Eels etc) in early 2011, the album  finds the band moving away from the acoustic sounds of their first album to something heavier but just as subtle and beautiful. This new sound may surprise some fans - only one song on the album features acoustic guitar - but the dual vocals and tribal drums familiar from their debut are still present and more developed and breath-taking than ever before.


The band released their debut album Fossils and other Phantoms on Wichita Recordings in 2010. It won the band acclaim for its subtle but powerful song writing. The NME called them 'head-over-heels brilliant', The Guardian praised their 'thrilling' musicianship and awarded the album four stars. They toured tirelessly for the rest of 2010, playing runs around Europe with both Local Natives and The Archie Bronson Outfit and around North America with She Keeps Bees, a co-headline run with Sky Larkin and finally in support of Kate Nash.

Originally released on the cult `(episodes from) The Field Bazaar' album of the same name and recently featured on The First Active Listeners Acid Folk Sampler.

The Bane Tree

O Campo Bazar was a Portuguese Twilight Zone/Tales of the Unexpected style programme which should have disappeared without a trace as was the TV company’s wishes had it not been for the release of ` (episodios de) O Campo Bazar’. This was a promotional gimmick marketed as `a sampler of instrumental works created especially for the programme’ and has since become a ultra rare curio hiding out with the national collection of Hen’s Teeth.

The original press release states that `the stunning full colour sleeve features O Campo Bazar in horrifically realistic costumes’. This is the only reference ever given to the performers who were - and still are - a mystery. Released in Portugal in 1973 on the Gravacoes Freeworld label this collection of sinister synth led soundscapes is long overdue a rerelease.

Several years later the cult status and mythos of the group/artist brought about the release of `The Bane Tree’– again on the Gravacoes Freeworld label. The artist(s) name had been translated into English - The Field Bazaar - and the (episodes from), which was a clear indication of its TV series roots, had also been translated and kept. It has the feel of being demos and unused tracks from the original recordings although the music is more acoustic and pastoral sounding with greater use having been made of sound effects. The performers remain unknown.

Recently artwork for a previously unknown  (episodes from) The Field Bazaar album `A Tale of Witches, Woodland and half-remember melodies…’ - Unreleased and assumed lost - was discovered in a box of old picture frames at a church jumble sale in Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire. A ¼ inch tape also surfaced in 2012 which is now believed to be tracks from the recording sessions for this lost album. So far a tweaked and updated tune `The Musgrave Ritual’ is the only track to have materialized from this lost album. The title again references Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and includes a reading of the ancient ritual from the Sherlock Holmes story of the same name.
