Rick Vayo - For Those Who Own Gold | INVTRTD001

Serbian-born DJ/Producer Lag was globe trotting from Los Angeles to Berlin, with his last pre-Covid gig at Berghain a little over a year ago. Meanwhile in quarantine, apart from discovering his newfound talent in hand modeling (as he alleges), Lag contributes to the interconnectedness of our global techno community by hosting a weekly Twitch show on his channel, CommissarLag, where he gives feedback to producers on their submitted tracks. Lag has a versatile, wide ranging warehouse sound that we love. His latest release, “Katran” (“tar” in Serbian), is a hefty dance track with a no-BS breakbeat attitude, elements of grunge, and a dirty bassline. Heavy claps set with delay give this track a sweaty feel. This nine-minute journey is filled with head-banging, punk energy whose rebounds can barely be contained. Low-frequency sounds resembling motorcycle revs haunt the track with intense drive. 

Prior to the pandemic Lag was preparing for his third US tour. Missing his sets almost as much as his jokes, Dirty Epic looks forward to welcoming Lag back to the LA underground.

Premiere: Lag - Katran (Extended Edit)

PLF is a live project consisting of Sedvs and Peel, short for Positive Life Force. It is the translation of what the two Bare Hands label bosses have been doing in the studio. The sound, somewhat reluctant to the comforting array of contemporary club spectacle is a constant wrestle between intuition and decision, challenging the loop based introverted sound their music pays hommage to, transcending into a state of tribalistic trance, bigger than the sheer functionality incorporated in their music.

This Set is a live recording from 2019 at Dead Sea Diaries.

Reconstitution is the first of two albums written during the pandemic.  The album is a sequel to 2016's Reshaper, and it represents another departure in sonic texture for Blush. The seven track selection flows smoothly into the depths of direct-driving future industrial mechanics.  Near breakcore speed beats morph into acidic ambient techno anthemics, shifting seamlessly through styles while retaining Blush's signature and ever evolving sound design. Red Nailmaker is a Berlin-based anonymous post-industrial music project. The namesake is actually derived from St.Petersburg's steel-rolling factory, a monument of constructivism built in the 1930s. The music of the project is close to constructivists' vision of art - it's abstract, mechanistic and raw in its form. The synonymousness with this art form is uncanny: the methodical and structured manufacturing of techno is masked in the true beauty and emotion of the genre. Stylistically it’s a boiling brew of techno, industrial, rhythmic noise and dub, described by Resident Advisor as “churning and noisy industrial techno with a real sense of menace”.

The Trauma EP is at once an obviously loyal tribute to the imprint platforming him, while being a visceral soundtrack to the gradual setting in of early morning lights.

Wasting no time in exercising his sonic assault, opening cut “Hypnotism” will affect you much like its name suggests on this punishing, splintered- beat body basher, before pummelling you into submission on the strobed-out warehouse techno epic “Plastic Rain”. He then ventures into the more abrasive shades of texture and gradient on the experimentally minded “Ava” until getting off- the-grid once more with a descent even deeper into the void, on the knackered closer “Dead Waves”."
