Chicago’s Beau Wanzer makes for a special case in today’s electronic music game. Molecular biologist by trade, the American producer tinkers with his analogue gear like a mad scientist; slicing, dicing, drilling down and through the super cial dermis of raw machinic spurts and variedly sourced samples to extract a sizzling juice of fractured synthlines, frantic scope distortions and off-kilter rhythms that goes unparalleled these days.

In recent years he has had collaborations and formed various projects, he is also known under the names: Mutant Beat Dance (with Traxx and Steve Summers), De-Bons-en-Pierre (with Maoupa Mazzocchetti), Civil Duty and Garum (with Shawn O Sullivan), Juzer, and Streetwalker (with Elon Katz)

His release history includes labels such as L.I.E.S., LA Club Resource, Jealous God, Ophism, Suction Records, BREW, Nation, Cititrax, Rush Hour, Dark Entries, Mannequin, The Trilogy Tapes, and his own 'Self-released "label. 

"The mix is a hodgepodge of failed electronics, punk pricks, comical conundrums, and a love song," - explains Beau Wanzer.

Holding Hands Mix 021 - DJ Voices

The venerable Dark Entries celebrates it’s 300th release with Panoramic Coloursound, a triple LP from the Creative Technology Consortium. Traxx, Andrew Bisenius, and Jason Letkiewicz forged the CtC during the depths of pandemic isolation. Drawing from film and television music of the 80’s/90’s and armed with a mighty array of vintage analog and digital synthesizers, they set out to explore heists, vices, and catastrophe. Panoramic Coloursound collapses sound and image into a neon blur throughout its 25 tracks.
While retro scores were the starting point for the CtC, the project does more than pay dutiful homage — these notes are warped and skewed, devolving into decaying digital soundscapes. EBM-inflected basslines pop up on tracks like “Catastrophe” and “A Retro Vice”, menacing numbers that recall Traxx and Letkiewicz’s legendary work as Mutant Beat Dance (a project also featuring Beau Wanzer). “Follow Our Kode” pairs heroic synths with funky bass, striking cosmic chords akin to the material that Traxx and Bisenius have released as An Anomaly. Krautrock-esque guitars slide along anthemic pads on “Beautifully Polluted Sunset”, which comes across like an alien Miami Vice closing theme. The CtC channel corroded VHS vibes while making music for the future. Panoramic Coloursound was mastered by Frédéric Alstadt. The sleeve was designed by Eloise Leigh, and features a photograph by Jason Letkiewicz. Also included is a postcard featuring liner notes, a gear list, and a photograph by Maria Tzeka

The Creative Technology Consortium – Panoramic Colorsound

Sobolik, a Brooklyn-based producer, DJ, promoter and label curator is up next for Tapes #98. Co-heading the London label All Centre alongside Simkin and DJ Pitch, Sobolik has been turning heads over the past two years with futuristic club cuts on labels such as 3024, CloudCore, Woozy, and early reflex. Sobolik's world is filled with colour and hyperkinetic energy - not fitting in one box, their output reacts to a broad palette of styles across North American and UK club music traditions. 

In February, they released their third EP, entitled Packet Loss, in a debut collaboration with Kindergarten Records, joining modern bass scene luminaries like Ayesha, Sha Ru, and Stolen Velour at Brooklyn’s preeminent home of chaotic, forward-thinking digital percussion tracks.

DJ, Producer, 1/2 of MMM (alongside Errorsmith) and more recently live performer @fiedelone has provided us with an outstanding mix that is distinctly different from the sets he has become known for. Having been a resident at OstGut and Berghain here we find him exploring some of his most beloved pieces of music he has collected over the years spent DJing, but rarely gets to play out. Combining a multitude of styles from the likes of µ-ziq, Oneohtrix Point Never, Terrence Dixon, Polygon Window, Suzanne Ciani, Coil and Delia Derbyshire. “I try to combine various styles of all times which contribute to the mood I like to generate. In the mix, you will find some classics of experimental music as well as some B-side gems that just happened to get on that recording and also some beats.”
