EBM, industrial, wave, drone, it’s all in there and it’s done magnificently well by Jerome Tcherneyan and Barkosina Hanusova. A couple collaboration dating back to about 2016, the two met in the London scene and almost instantly started recording together to start their project on impulse, something that seems to drive their sound through every release since. 

With increasing acclaim through each record, the two sent a message with their album on the Italian VEYL recordings ‘Suicide Disco’ that really imposed their sound internationally with tracks like ‘Face to Face’ and ‘I’m Still a Pill’ which are classics at this point.

VOLTAGE Podcast 22 - Years of Denial

Baudelaires poetries remain one of the most influential centrepieces in my book collection and they are maybe my most re-read volume of poems. Like all great poets he was an acute observer and an ingenious translator of feelings. His words paint precise and poignant pictures of the shapeless and inenarrable, like a mood or a sentiment. Sometimes only music can have the same effect on me. However, the fascination and the bloom of „Les Fleurs du Mal“ goes beyond that. Baudelaire's observations, could be considered overall as „negative“, for example as pessimistic - like the unfulfilled human pursuit of integrity -, or as repulsive - like the tristesse of urban hedonism. Induced by the linguistic beauty the emotional experiencing of the seemingly „negative“ or „evil“ - which in some places of the book can be kind of an explicit sense of self - transforms into a bittersweet atmosphere that holds grace and grandeur. Here I see a strong commonality with some music I love and I feel there is a similar approach entire music genres might have pursued: Maybe more than other art forms, music is sometimes met with refusal, confusion and lack of understanding when things become aestheticised, that are distasteful, obnoxious, cruel or - to stay with Baudelaire - „evil“. But behind all this stands a reality, the musician as an acute observer is witness to. Ars longa, vita brevis.

This mix, rather a sound collage, is meant to sonically illustrate the pictures Baudelaire put in my mind; sometimes a direct reflection of the texts, sometimes a associative pairing to the feelings Baudelaire's words elicit. In his tracks you will often find analogue sounds of massive bass-lines, aggressive percussion and his vocals-expressive phrases in Russian. His latest releases were on Dame-Music, Up North, Crave Tapes, Idlestates, OSM Tapes, and more.

Italian-born, Prague-based DJ Ester is sort of young blood to the local scene. Her enthusiasm for electronic music brought her to play her first gig in 2018. Since then, she invites listeners along a long, dark, escalating journey that continues to evolve in her sets. Ester is mainly inspired by the sounds of EBM, industrial, 
darkwave, and post-punk, but there are no borders in her music selection. She remains in her element when playing in other areas such as dark-ambient and oriental that fill the gaps of silence in her daily life.

Dirty Epic welcomes aboard @faux_naif for its thirty seventh episode of Amplify Series.

faux naif is based in London and holds her own event series Mouth II Mouth, curating sounds that showcase the underrepresented genres of EBM, Darkwave, Post Punk & Synth/ Goth across the dancefloors of London.

She provides a platform for these sounds through radio shows, via a residency on Threads & Balamii radio, as well as her own biannual event series M II M (mouthiimouth). Her events take place at intimate venues across London. This year M II M will host its own room at fabric, London.

Performing in venues such as Electrowerkz , fabric, Corsica Studios, FOLD and for legendary London parties such as Kaos, Verboten UNFOLD, Jaded, Slimelight and Torture Garden, faux
naïf has a passion for the London underground music scene. She is a regular DJ on the London fetish and kink circuit. She has also performed in Berlin's iconic club Tresor & Kit Kat Klub.

Previous bookings have seen her playing alongside artists such as Regis, Silent Servant, Ancient Methods, Adam X, Broken English Club, Death In Vegas, I Hate Models, Violet Poison, Years Of Denial, Blush Response, Sarin, Zanias and Ugandan Methods, VTSS & JK Flesh.

2021 saw her take part in the UNSTREAM sessions at FOLD, joined forces with Regis on a special co-host show ‘The Future is dead (and the past won’t stop happening) and recent guest slots on Tbilisi based Mutant Radio, including the Live broadcast for Mutant Radio Boat gathering.
