Stomping Ground 2

On Friday 6th June, the Dutch drum & bass producer, Lenzman, will toast the release of his Looking At The Stars album live in Room One. Released on Goldie’s inimitable Metalheadz label the fifteen track long player explores the Amsterdam based maestro’s brew of overtly musical, soulful blend of d&b. Saying “I wanted this album to be personal more than anything,” Lenzman’s certainly created a balanced album that fully reflects the spectrum of human emotion, [as the press release puts it] “from introspection to confidence and doubt”.

We’ll be catching up with Lenzman in depth and proper next week, but for now he’s pre-empted the interview, his album and the launch party by bestowing on us a 33 minute mix that includes and highlights the potency of a few upcoming cuts from Looking At The Stars…

Moonlight In Vermont Mix 09-01-13

Barcelona 2001.The police had left us to it on the beach for Sant Joan (festival of fire). Soundsystems lined the shore, but we'd managed to smuggle down a function 1 and were having the best of it. My cousin Digs (DiY) dropped into play. The house groove rolled on. At dawn we moved inside to a warehouse nearby. And from the there it was back to Dave's place. Not sure who Dave was, but he had a nice roof terrace. So I dug around in the record box trying to find dubs, edits or B sides to suit the rising sun. A few weeks later, someone gave me a tape of it. Apparently Dave had got himself organised with the C60s. So here it is. A rambling soundtrack to a hazy morning.

On April 29th Andy released 'Times and Places'. Over the last 15 years he has been writing this album on the road on tour with GA. From Airport Lounges / Hotel Rooms / Planes / Trains and an array of tour buses. The last two years saw Andy edit all these ideas into one beautiful album. Released through the legendary Apollo Records and R&S Records, on digital and limited edition hardback CD book. There will also be a cheeky vinyl announcement on the way but more of that to come. This is Groove Armada history.

With a focus on the funk and breaks, he is no stranger to elevating a dance floor with the likes of jungle, fist pumping electro, sexy jacking house, soulful bass music, the glitchiest of glitch hop and anything else that may cause a booty popping effect or head banging tendencies. The Funkee Wadd has had the privilege of sharing the stage with many acts such as The Funk Hunters, Stickybuds, Mat The Alien, JFB, Souls Of Mischief, Slynk, A Skillz, SkiiTour, Father Funk, WBBL, Featurecast, and many, many other talented individuals. For the past couple years, The Funkee Wadd headed to England to play the Ghetto Funk Shindig Weekender, as well as perform at many festivals around Alberta and BC, such as Centre Of Gravity, Electric Love Music Festival, Tall Tree Music Festival, Astral Harvest, Shambhala, Atmosphere, Cumberland Wild and many more.
