It's not often I'll do a mix to order but when your best pal requests songs to use for a party invitation you can't possibly refuse.

Northern Disco 2015

Here is a little extra present for Rough Trade for making Too Slow To Disco their number one compilation of 2014. It's a mix based on a bonus disc exclusively available at the Rough Trade Shops in winter 2014. 

It is dj supermarkt's first Radio-Style-Mix after 2011’s Nite Flyte, Too Slow To Disco from 2010 and Laurel Canyon from 2009. So it comes with lots of spoken-word breaks, radio jingles and other annoying stuff in between the tracks. This time it features really obscure and forgotten artists from the late 70s and early 80s who embrace that Westcoast sound between the singer/songwriter era and 'almost disco'. 

You get LA-influenced bands from funny places like Norway, the Netherlands, two acts from sunny UK, a group that doesn’t even has a name, a guy who used to be in Jefferson Starship, a forgotten all-star session-band from LA, which released two albums on a label by one of the Beatles, a track by a band that really is only mentioned in this big thing called internet. Plus a light, phantastic, exotic ten minute disco-trip to a remote Pleasure Island. Enjoy."

Led by Chuck Da Fonk FSQ (Funk Style, Quality) is an incredibly talented 6 piece production team which also features seven-time Grammy nominated producer GKoop.

Formed under the watchful eye and guidance of legend George Clinton of Parliament / Funkadelic they have already released with Soul Clap and Midnight Riot. Along the way they have developed a sound which is very much their own fusing Northern Soul, funk, Caribbean Disco and dance-floor percussion.

We spoke to Chuck, close friends and long-time collaborator with the inimitable George Clinton, about the project, their tours and their history together as well as his thoughts on the current music climate. Chuck also put together a superb ‘P-Funk ‘themed mix for us. Make sure you check this fascinating feature.

Coming to you live and direct from the Funky Seshwa at Good Room's hi-fi dancefloor, The Bad Room, we have an archived live dj mix from one of Brooklyn funkiest, Adeline! 

The mix is from February 20th, 2020 and features funk classics, soulful grooves, and some house that got the floor running at peak time before we had a live performance by Jitwam!

Funky Seshwa Mix Series 003: Adeline (DJ Set) Live In The Bad Room 2.20.20

Definitely one of the illest mixes in the archive - we got the legendary Marley Marl live from our party with him on 3.28.19!

This mix is special because it takes Marley out of the box as not just a hip-hop DJ but an OG NYC staple DJ, playing the sounds that influenced him on his come up. Expect sounds from 1980's New York, classic funk + David Mancuso inspired tracks, and one of Marley's true loves: hard-hitting house music!... all with Marley's trademark turntable skills that make him one of NYC's finest party rockers. 

We hope you enjoy this mix as much as we do, definitely one to blast during peak party time.

It's been 30 years since I started playing records to people, so I thought I'd dig a few of them out and go back to 'about that time'. Enjoy some of the tracks me, my friends (Dave, Ally, McNiv, Jaki, Marcus, Stevie, Ryan, Gourley, Jeff, Tim, Ross, Laura, Neeps, Ruth, Mike (RIP)and Aimi) and dancers enjoyed.

There's also a homage to the DJs that changed the way I approached playing records; not only to play great songs but to try and arrange technically to perfection. Shouts to Sasha, Paul Ritchie and Harri.

Back from hiatus, the Seshwa mix series returns with episode 5 featuring the MAYOR of Mexico City's dance music scene, @Paurrro, for a solid 2 hours of peak-time house music!

Paurro has dedicated herself to sharing music as a DJ & cultural curator, creating spaces to elevate the artists in her community. Paurro is also well known for her allegiance to the LGBTQ+ community in Mexico and beyond.

She is the head of booking and programming at Aire Libre, Mexico City's eclectic radio station where she hosts a weekly show called Femme Soul.

Natasha has been lighting up dance floors across the globe with her energetic and eclectic brand of underground disco. She is the label boss of Ghetto Disco Records (UK) and a recent addition to the Defected & Glitterbox rosters. It is with absolute joy that we present her Funky Seshwa guest mix!! 

Born and raised in Edinburgh into a soul music obsessed family, Natasha was introduced to rare Soul, Funk, Boogie and Rare Disco from a young age.

Spotted by the main influencers in the Disco & House scene Natasha quickly took up residency at seminal events such as: Southport Weekender / Festival, UK, Suncebeat Festival, Croatia, Liverpool Disco Festival, Ocean Beach Ibiza & Pikes Ibiza. Recently, Natasha Kitty Katt was snapped up by the Defected Glitterbox imprint and is now playing at their Global Events around the world.
As a producer, her releases have gained interest with tracks out on Glitterbox Recordings, Tropical Disco Records, Midnight Riot, No Fuss Records, Masterworks Music, Paper Recordings, Tribe & Situationism. The House Music Legends are also paying attention with an imminent release on DJ Spen’s label UnQuantize & Louie Vega MAW has reworked two of her tracks for his forthcoming album on Nervous Records.

For our 114th instalment we enlisted the iconic Glitterbox's resident @hifi-sean . 

A full hour journey through the funkier sides of house from disco infusions to soulful jams and gospel bangers, this mix has it all. 

"HIFI SEAN is a DJ, Producer and Songwriter, currently known for his album ‘FT’, which he describes as ‘electronic, psychedelic soul’.Released in2016, the album boasts collaborations with an extraordinarily diverse range of artists including some of the most significant underground musical icons of the past 40 years.‘FT’'s stellar collection of artists includes:- Yoko Ono, avant-garde musician, conceptual art icon and one of the most controversial female artists of all time; Bootsy Collins widely regarded as one of the finest Funk/RnB bass players in the world; Dave Ball co-founder ofSoft Cell, the UK’s notorious synth pioneers with the uniquely sleazy electric soul, Fred Schneider from the manic, bizarre and highly innovative US new-wave group B-52’s and Alan Vega, vocalist of the seminal proto-punk NewYork duo Suicide.

In addition to writing and producing his own solo album, Sean has been passionately dedicated to his DJ sets (which include many self produced tracks) holding down residencies and guest appearances at Shoreditch House, East Bloc, Dalston Superstore, Savage, Q-Lab Milan and most recently at Ministry of Sound.
