The Seshwa holds residencies at Good Room & Public Records + the show this Saturday will benefit the incredible arts therapy for kids non-profit that is The ELM Foundation.

Alice Moxom—better known by her stage name, Moxie—started out as a radio DJ on Kiss FM and NTS before playing parties and touring full-time. Now she has a label and party series that she curates called On Loop, which has invited artists like Matthew Herbert, Josey Rebelle, Leon Vynehall, K-Hand and Joy Orbison, in venues across Europe and the UK. The key to her success, she says, is that she hasn't rushed anything in her career. "Your sound can evolve and you can change," she says. "If you're thinking about this as a real career, the [opportunities] will always come around." 

In this episode of Resident Advisor's Exchange—the second in a three-part masterclass series called Future Proof, a collaboration with Rhythm Section—co-host Bradley Zero says that Moxie is "one of the most organized and graceful DJs on the circuit." She reveals how she has steadily built a career from the ground up, detailing how she's developed a synergistic relationship with her booking agent; selectively chosen gigs and mix opportunities; maneuvered stylistically without confusing promoters; and cultivated lasting relationships with a team of people she trusts. Coming to you live and direct from the Funky Seshwa at Good Room's hi-fi dancefloor, The Bad Room, we have an archived live dj mix from one of Brooklyn funkiest, Adeline! 

The mix is from February 20th, 2020 and features funk classics, soulful grooves, and some house that got the floor running at peak time before we had a live performance by Jitwam!

Definitely one of the illest mixes in the archive - we got the legendary Marley Marl live from our party with him on 3.28.19!

This mix is special because it takes Marley out of the box as not just a hip-hop DJ but an OG NYC staple DJ, playing the sounds that influenced him on his come up. Expect sounds from 1980's New York, classic funk + David Mancuso inspired tracks, and one of Marley's true loves: hard-hitting house music!... all with Marley's trademark turntable skills that make him one of NYC's finest party rockers.

Back from hiatus, the Seshwa mix series returns with episode 5 featuring the MAYOR of Mexico City's dance music scene, @Paurrro, for a solid 2 hours of peak-time house music!

Paurro has dedicated herself to sharing music as a DJ & cultural curator, creating spaces to elevate the artists in her community. Paurro is also well known for her allegiance to the LGBTQ+ community in Mexico and beyond.

She is the head of booking and programming at Aire Libre, Mexico City's eclectic radio station where she hosts a weekly show called Femme Soul.
