I arrived in London in early ‘71 and landed on the Holland Road, Shepherd’s Bush not long after.
My good pal Julie Lewis (from Durham) with whom I’d worked with in Sydney, had digs there and invited me to stay. Nonetheless I found it a challenging place to be after Sydney, Summer, beaches, family and gigs. Amongst Julie’s record collection was Nick Drake’s 'Bryter Later' which brought solace to me as I often felt very alone and completely at a loss as to how to navigate London town.

Years later I was to learn that Freddie Mercury was living just a few doors down from us on the Holland Road...no I never knew him...but when I wrote the lyric it seemed apt to pay homage to Freddie and our collective dreams. I’m so happy with Cripple Club’s interpretation of the lyrics, bringing to life a musical collage that depicts the highs and lows of living on the Holland Road through my first cold winter! From my heart; thank you Terry & Gary Reeves; you are two soulful & gifted brothers; I feel so indebted to you both and to Hans Albers for his powerful musical contributions. When Manuel sent me a guitar track over a year ago I fairly quickly decided to write an epilogue for Major Tom. Little did I know that I would end up taking a longish break from writing music. With infinite patience Manuel waited for me until now and to my even greater surprise this retro lyric has become almost current with the two NASA astronauts in space waiting for their return trip to Earth.

Mark says - 
In the 5 years I have been working with Rod, I have been encouraged to reach as far as my experience allows me to, with complete support at all times. So far we have completed 11 songs and have experimented with several others that made for a great learning curve for me, with several more at other stages of development... Watch this space, however as we are methodical and patient, therefore it may take some time to get them off the ground.

The subject matter of this song may be based on a different scenario but it is also a token of my gratitude to my inspirational collaborator and friend Rod, who has given me much confidence to rise to the ambition of his musical creativity and meticulous arrangements. Thank you all for giving this song your time.

Rod says - 
This song was conceived a long time ago to be sung in Spanish, but Mark did a magnificent adaptation with his English lyrics, and the meaning is 100% faithful to the original spirit, even though he hadn't heard the original song in Spanish. Technically, there are three voices together, consolidating a multi-vocal performance. The synth sounds emulate my old analog and FM synths, and the guitars were routed through an old console to achieve the vintage sound I was looking for.

A weekend improvisation, dedicated to the turning points in our lives that often show up unexpectedly, after heavy, difficult times.  As you listen to this piece, you will hear the "turning point" emerge in the music around the 3:22 mark.

The Turning Point

Another song of mine, basically pop, arrived out of nowhere, just two chords that take on a life of their own and end up becoming a pretty catchy song. I explore the possibilities of my small keyboard, considering I don't know how to play it. The lyrics talk about a very recurrent and seemingly complex theme, but in practice very simple to deal with: Life, that thing about which you can say anything.

Last movement of the rock symphony, where I pay tribute to, and play, my mom's spanish guitar.
Main theme (bass E1-A1...E1-A1-E2...), appears all along the album, and also main themes of other 3 movements sound here as refrains (Vienen y van / Hora tras hora) which are thus sung over 4 different musics ;) E-Ruizzo project is finished, what's to come?... below translated lyrics.
