I know, I know. This is about the 5th time I've remixed the boss pieces. I just haven't felt that I've captured the theme in all it's evil glory yet, so here's another try. This time  it stays quite true to the originals and utilises the new CineBrass album to give some epic brass crazyness.

We'll just have to see how happy I am with this one and whether I'll attack it again at a future date :)

An orchestrated version of the Final Zone from the original Sonic the Hedgehog. I haven't released a sonic remix in a while and wanted to try one this morning. I tried to experiment a little so it's not amazingly close to the original. I also composed it from ear so there may be duff notes here and there.

An orchestrated version of the Sonic 4 boss theme. I didn't spend too long on this (I had started it earlier this year and gotten as far as the trumpet intro, but ended up redoing it with CineBrass). It's pretty basic and close to the original, though halfway through I just did my own thing. Unfortunately you can hear that I didn't push too hard with the choir samples for realism, but I wanted to get it done rather than have it sit on my drive another 8 months.

Well, here's something a bit different. Two remixes from Sonic 3 & Knuckles used for a 20th Anniversary animation, based on the wonderful written works of Nigel Kitching and artwork of Richard Elson, the beginning of Sonic the Comic's Running Wild arc, where Super Sonic really begins to take on a life of his own.

Yuski about a month ago messaged me that he was preparing an animation for Sonic's 20th anniversary to be shown at Summer of Sonic 2011, and wondered if I wanted to help with the backing music. Of course, I said yes. Thus, this remix of Doomsday was born.

This one was actually made first, and made the intro to match the timing shown on the very first animation run that Yuski showed me. While that did lock down certain things within the animation and probably made the job a lot harder (sorry Yuski!) it certainly made the build-up that much more dramatic, especially at the part with the appearance of Super Sonic. Like the Hidden Palace track, this one goes on longer than the one in the video, as we had to end it where it did, so the whole build-up to the next loop you hear here, along with the additional loop of the song had to be stripped down for the credits sequence which just looped the little quieter bit. It worked well for the animation, definitely, with the timing, but I personally prefer the build-up to the next loop better. Much more dramatic(!)

If you were at Summer of Sonic yesterday, you got to experience the animation on a large screen projector along with myself and Tom (who did Sonic's voice), which was an amazing experience. (Especially everyone's reaction, really great seeing that(!)) There is going to be more animated for it, but probably at a little bit of a slower rate as we don't have a month deadline to work to this time(!)

Final Boss (Sonic 3)

Well, here's a fun mash up. For an SMPS Competition over at the SSRG forums, we had to make a version of the 8-Bit Sonic Spinball's Final Showdown music into a Mega Drive version. I heard it for the first time there, really liked it, and instantly heard this as a possibility.

Of course I had to do it. :> 

A mash up of that tune and Sonic 3's final boss, this was both good fun and a pain in the arse to make. It won the round, though, so enjoy! Take a listen to the others in that round too by registering at the SSRG forums and seeing the SMPS Competition sub-board, as they were all good entries this time.
