Maltitz is the 16th selector to grace the Pick ’N’ Mix series, providing an hour of Italo disco slammers. Taking us back to the old school, Maltitz leaves no 80s banger unturned. High energy throughout, this one will fire up any party.

Maltitz is a Berlin based DJ and producer. His influences include 80s, rough electro, Acid House and Italo of course. Previous releases have been on @midnightoperators,@italo_moderni, @obsolet_records, @golden-gate-club-records, @clap-visions, @percerecordings, @camelridersrec and his own label @rurutu.

According to Homer's "Odyssey" the nymph Calypso, who resided in the island of Ogygia, put a spell on the sailor Odysseus who shipwrecked on the island when on his way to Ithaca.
After being abducted for 10 years he was freed from the psychedelic state of the love spell.
Calypso died of grief when Odysseus sailed back to his wife Penelope.

This compilation is a musical representation of the myth. An ode to passion and psychedelia.

Musically speaking the compilation is a flow of evocative sounds ranging from the fourth world, new age, psych-rock, dark ambient, techno, dub & electronica that provide an epic wholeness to the concept.

The tape’s artwork is an abstracted portrayal of Odysseus, encapsulating a gloomy, dream-like state of mind prevailing when under a spell of seduction. He is as the island beneath his feet, surrounded by the emptiness of the sea, trapped with nowhere to go.

In the mid 90s in a small granny flat in a then rural Wicklow village a teenage producer kept himself busy making cassette tapes full of beats on his trusty s3000 sampler and an early wooden cased PC running Cubase v1. A world of music later comes this 8 track release for t-woc's home county label Remotetown. Consisting of live set extracts, MPC workouts and straight from desk to tape jams, this collection of tracks are a connection to those days of constant experimentation with limited gear and endless imagination playing out like the flailing limbs seen through a strobe at a slow motion rave.

He is known for his eclectic style and brings together influences from Italo Disco, Indie Dance, House & Wave in his DJ sets, which is also reflected in his diverse art of music production. Maltitz's energetic DJ sets thrive on the dynamic atmosphere, characterized by diverse genre excursions and rapid tempo changes. 

He surprises with the mixture of humor, sex appeal and the right selection for the night and always looks for the emotional connection to the audience. He is a well-known DJ in the Berlin club scene and plays in venues such as the Funkhaus (porcelain bar), Sisyphos, //about:blank, Golden Gate, Æden, Ipse. As an experienced DJ, he has been a guest at the Wilde Möhre and the Feel Festival. He also gained a reputation outside of Berlin and played in clubs in cities such as Frankfurt, Hamburg, Kassel or Dresden. In the local PAL club in Hamburg he plays alongside with stage luminaries like Boris, FJAAK, Sedef Adasi, Cormac, Héctor Oaks or Spencer Parker, whereby his universally known closing sets can last up to six hours.

Bio:
The German DJ, producer, and label boss of Rurutu Records is known for his versatility and graceful skills in the DJ booth. Maltitz has been rocking the turntables since 2006.

Born and raised in Wuppertal, Maltitz is the beast of the Ruhr area and can draw upon 20 years of DJ experience. After moving to Berlin in 2014, he continued his artistic journey. From House to techno, from Italo-disco to electro and back again - in the booth, he exudes plenty of energy and can captivate the crowd in an instant. He crafts exciting transitions between tracks that are instinctive and captivating, whether optimizing his sound for a large festival stage or fine-tuning for a more intimate vibe in a small, sweaty basement.

He surprises with the mixture of humor, sex appeal and the right selection for the night and always looks for the emotional connection to the audience. He is a well-known DJ in the Berlin club scene and plays in venues like Renate, //:about:blank, Oxi Club & Watergate Club. As an experienced DJ, he has been a regular guest at the Wilde Möhre and the Feel Festival. He also gained a reputation outside of Berlin and played in clubs in cities such as Frankfurt, Hamburg, Essen, Kassel or Dortmund. In the Hamburg Club PAL, he played alongside with stage luminaries like Boris, FJAAK, Sedef Adasi, Héctor Oaks or Spencer Parker.

As a producer, Maltitz combines the sound worlds of various sub-genres of electronic dance music.
Maltitz releases his debut Vinyl EP "Ryokucha EP" on Skylax Rec. (Paris) in 2024. He is part of the "Make Italo Disco Great Again" Compilations in Cooperation with Cracki Rec. & Fauve Rec. running by RomainFX.
