Having had an enormous influence on the shaping and evolution of the genre in his home country Japan, his sonic explorations have long since spread and continue to influence the footwork community worldwide. His minimalistic yet dense, shuffling, shifting, polyrhythmic beats drift, slip and catch up with themselves, keeping every dancer on their toes. His releases on Exit Records, Booty Tune as well as collaborations with Skip Club Orchestra are some of the most unique and forward thinking productions in the genre. Much to our chagrin many of this prolific producer's productions remain unreleased but luckily for us this mix, which was recorded live at Compufunk in Osaka in 2023, is a treasure trove of his secret gems. Only Little Vibes (Alt Ver.)

In 2012, my electric piano & I were invited to be the "house band" for a live recording of a music interview show called The Low Times. The recording took place in front of a live audience at The Hideout in Chicago, Illinois. The guests that night were Richard Marx & Steve Albini. I taught myself instrumental versions of "Right Here Waiting" to play as Richard Marx's walk-on music & "Kittypants" by Shellac to play as Steve Albini's walk-on music. It felt absolutely crazy to perform Steve Albini's music for him as he walked on stage that night. I was too shy to introduce myself after the show, & despite ending up in the same room on a number of different occasions over the years, I never told him what his music meant to me, or that I vividly remembered the electric feeling of hearing Big Black's "The Power of Independent Trucking" on a college radio station in the backseat of my friend Dan's car during my junior year of high school, or that I bought every Big Black record that I could find in the years that followed. I never told him that I still had that angry, fucked-up sound in my head all those years later. Thank you & rest in peace Steve Albini.

Here is a twelve-year-old rehearsal tape of me playing "Kittypants" on my electric piano. I hope you enjoy it.
