The Powergoats are an Ottawa rock outfit delivering a strong range of musical dynamics and live shows entertaining thousands of people in Ontario and Quebec since they emerged on the scene in 2009. Led by singer-songwriter Jamie Douglas, the sounds of this band have been described as "retro rock pre-soaked in blues, with a hint of folk". The Powergoats' line up also features Andrew Burns (bass, vocals, keyboards), Chris Zimmerman (drums), Izzy Martinez (lead guitar), Zeek Gross (saxophone), and Kelly Craig (trumpet).

 

Spring 2024 will see their first-ever compliation vinyl release 'The Best of The Powergoats' with two new tracks. Other releases include the albums "The Powergoats In 3D"(2012), Blue Canoe (2019), 'Live in the Summer Sun' (2016), Ruby Headlights (2014), Bottled Sunset (2012), and two early demo CDs; Moonlit Crimes (2010), and Chrome Libido (2008).

 

With hundreds of shows behind them including three for RBC Ottawa Bluesfest, two for Ottawa City Sounds, and one for Cityfolk Marvest, The Powergoats have shared stages with many great artists such as Rise Against, The Lost Fingers, The Free Press, The Joe Crown Trio, Brock Zeman, Etoile Noire, Danny Van Sceney, James McMurtry, Malak, Jasper Bridge, Jillian Kerr, Bearshark, The Clint Everson Band, Ty Hall, Hearts&Mines, Lloyd Smiley, Three Times Lucky, Wake the Wolf, and Tribe Royal among others.

In a shotgun shack in the sub-zero depths of the Ottawa winter, The Red Rails began, with vocalist and guitarist Kim Vincent, bassist Chris Slaney and drummer Steve Brogno as its constituent parts. Since then, they’ve roamed the landscape like a pack of wolves, challenging audiences with their feral rock intensity and a taste for blood.

Their debut full-length album, A Living Fiction, is a rare beast. The songs pummel forward with muscular precision until either transcending to moments of melodic power or unraveling into anarchy. The first single from the album, On the Line, is a fine example, and its official video showcases the band’s frenetic edge, with Kim lacerating his guitar between vocal assaults on the mic. They’ve been compared to Them Crooked Vultures, Alice in Chains, and Death From Above 1979.



Formed not too long ago, not too far from here, The Hornettes are a fire-breathing funky beast with a single purpose: heart racing, feet pacing, soul shaking, earth quaking dance floor bedlam. Sexual tension and heart-stopping stares ooze from the front-women, supported by the hottest horn section in town, and nature’s strongest form: the rock-solid rhythmic triangle of guitar, drums and bass. A funky love-child of the best of Motown and the current soul revival, The Hornettes will leave you panting, chanting and heart transplanting. Pound for pound, the best sound in town.
