"By the 2030s, serving a prison sentence had evolved into an exceptionally cruel and bizarre experience, though potently efficient and, somehow, well-respected. Gone were the days of sitting around idly, just trying not to get beaten up while waiting for your sentence to be over. No, you were incarcerated in a virtual penal education portal. Imagine a video game that felt, sounded, and looked like reality, but where you were made, with vivid, graphic detail, to relive your crime against humanity from the receiving end in shocking and deeply moving ways that could only be imagined. Then, you were forced to learn, at length, the gaps in your ignorance. Through the brutal autocracy of supply-side economics, private prisons devolved into skyscrapers full of tiny cells, barely wider than the wingspan of a large adult. Strapped into "the machine," as they called it, and plugged into "Convict University", your body and mind were constantly in motion, while in reality, you were in a perpetual state of aestivation. A highly engineered fungus was both part of your daily sustenance and your captor. It was forced through a tube, along with a nutrient-rich slurry awash in hypnotic drugs and antibiotics. This was such a cheaper and more effective form of incarceration and re-education that it swept the globe. Even so, some estimated that a full 3.8% of the planet's global energy output was consumed by these towers of torpor and the systems that re-learned all those who needed their thinking corrected. Curiously, these systems had originally been designed by the Russians for keeping mortal bodies working and minds sharp during deep space travel and were adapted to this disturbingly efficacious purpose upon that once-proud nation’s plunge into the depths of cruel, capitalistic oligarchy..."

Towers Of Torper

On this the week of 1-8-21 on “In Synthesis with Infinite Is”, we begin the show with some sounds reflecting on the seditious riot of the superstitious right at our nations capital. We are deeply saddened and disappointed at the lives lost and the trust that was squandered in service of despotic, superstitious lies and a selfish mans injured pride. We must steel ourselves against this blatant attack on our democracy and find a way forward that respects all those who built this great nation and look forward to a vision of a more just, rational, compassionate and truthful path.


We then convey a few area announcements and review a live in studio set from December of 2019 called "The Battle Of The Beeg". An ode to the biofreighter of legend and those who lived for it's mission. The show closes with a deep and melodic closing improv session.

Sedition Of The Superstitious

"Stranded just a few kilometers from the fast moving kill zone, Basakai crawled away from the horrifying sounds and smells of the biofreighters approaching storm of deadly falling spikes. A great cloud of death, soil and debris reared up toward the upper atmosphere, like a giant poisonous wave, poised to smash down upon a tiny boat. Already the wind carried the first wisps of heat, fine dust and the smell of vaporizing infrastructure. There would be no escape from this erasure. Then looking back upon the last few maneuvers, this poor, wretched fool now began to see where it all went wrong. What a reckless idiot, how could anyone be so easily convinced to put all their eggs in one hatchettolite hole like that. Why oh why?

 A stench of fungus began to filter into the leading edge of the dust cloud and the acrid air tasted like metal. Basakai knew that this meant that there was only a short time before the poison scrambled every sensory input and jumbled every code. Breaking down atomic bonds of all living things, the experience was engineered with the final mercy of immeasurable bliss on behalf of the soon to be victims, the transition from living to dead would culminate in a brilliant flash of white hot pleasure. Once this poor soldier’s butterflies began floating, the terror washed away and there was nothing left to do but flip over and spread out on the trembling ground facing the sky.

 Deep breaths now, exhale slowly, the brilliant warm glow builds even through closed eyelids. It was over, it was time to give in to entropy. Basakai swallowed hard, belly quivering with adrenaline and the great shaking of the ground beneath.  There will be no one left to remember the sacrifice of this one life, in just a few revolutions, this planet will be unrecognizable, once the Rhizomes take hold. All Basakai could do now was to follow training and begin counting backwards..."

"The atmosphere shimmered emerald green with aurora that night, from horizon to horizon, it filled the sky. A single, hectic point, was visibly pulsing a dazzling array of color. It would be the last signal that the Arecibo observatory would receive before it was crippled. Some suspected that the damage was inflicted to prevent further communications from being heard. This massive dish was uniquely apt at sucking in the singing, broad spectrum signal. Flaring with great intensity, Proxima Centauri, a low mass main sequence star was somehow transmitting a bizarre data stream. Nobody seemed to be able to translate into useful information, yet there could be no doubt that the star was pulsing with this sort of obviously ordered transmission. Just shy of an hour, the recording presented such a startling rhythm, and the strangest alien sounding melody, the scientists tasked with trying to decode it would play the audible portion of the spectrum as they worked. In fact it was leaked and soon became a popular hit on all of the planets top 40 charts somehow, everyone seemed to become obsessed with it’s hypnotic draw. Almost overnight it was nearly impossible to escape it as it was broadcast 24 hours a day, on every frequency. It leapt from boomboxes, screeched from drive through speakers, careened out of car stereos, crept from clip on speakers, that began to hang from crowds of distracted pedestrians, like parasites. It echoed out of minarets, church steeples, it was on the subway, at the grocery store, in the elevator, blaring thinly from every phone, tablet and laptop. Gogo, somehow knew, like a very select few, that from the moment he heard it, he had to stop it, he had to shut down the mountain, and disable the massive dish and quick..."

Then we travel back in spacetime where we listen in to jets whooshing toward a shimmering wall of wormhole called "All The Kings Horses". After a few area announcements we have a long suureal look at our reflection when Jeff seizes control of the vocoder for a piece entitled "Mirror". Contemplations were contemplated, Thoughts were thunk, counterpoints were pointed out, voices were vocoded and much fun was had by all.

This is maybe the most unexpected show I performed so far. The Next is a little nightclub located in the middle of the historical centre of Strasbourg. It's a neat venue, with a nice staff and a good sound-system, but one can say it's very mainstream music-driven, so the odds to hear experimental, or even electronica stuff there is near zero.

Actually that was quite a challenge for me to adapt my style to this peculiar place. I had to find the right balance between my usual weird no input sounds, and some more musical/danceable elements, so I wouldn't lose the whole audience instantly. Turned out it worked pretty well, as people looked like they were really enjoying the moment. Interestingly, the most receptive were the younger part of the audience. I remember that the deeper we went into the expedition, the larger was the physical separation between the older ones, chatting and smiling in the background, and the younger ones, nervously dancing and headbanging just in front of me.

Thank you very much Nico, Mich-Mich and all the Kollectiv Wolfgang for trusting me and making this weird crossover of genres happen, thank you Ricardo for the great conversation, thank you Flipper for hosting the party, and thank you Crash Server for recommanding my name to the team. It was both a fun and interesting project to work on.

Found addressed to "all astray", a letter from the future, for today:

“It is so important as we go ahead, into the future, into their heads. 
We keep the real, leave the past, broken lies that weaken, fairy tales of magic men. 
Into this void we hurtle, the empty space can be a burden, when it lies between our ears. 
So ill equipped we are right now, to cope with our own success.

 It is time to demand what should be ours, from those in command, who steal and cheat us, like worshipers of supply side Jesus. 
They take and take and take it from the bottom and keep it for themselves. Then lie about how they can’t afford to help. 
The rich get richer because we let them. 

They are teaching us to play dumb, teaching us not to want a future for everyone. 
Instead of whips and chains, they reduce our brains, to simple, superstitious rubes. 
They take away our ability to argue. 
Just sports and god and facebook memes, guns to shoot and games to play. It’s all just feels over reals, instigate, hate, fear, divide, detract, desensitize, depersonalize, depreciate. 
Reality has a liberal bias, the right is now just out to harm us.

 It is time we take control, over what our efforts can do for all. 
Give reason to the little ones, teach them about the harm that superstition does. 
Teach how to learn some more, give them methods, give them goals, give them critical thinking lessons.
We will not win until we have nailed the last lie to the counter. 
Lies like “In God We Trust” need to die at the alter, appeals to superstition diminish us. 
That junk’s not real, it’s dangerous. 
We need to beat the virus of made up stuff, it is a fiction that is literally killing us, when more than half won’t vaccinate because they’re ignorant.”

On this the week of 9-11-20 on In Synthesis with Infinite Is the show opens with a bit crushing hour long improvisational synthesizer piece that is sure to delight. Then the "Is" dusts of a rusty old ancient recording of Jeff doing a great Bonzo impression with a tune called "Jeff Zeppelin". This is followed up by an old Mad Tracker project Jeff did called "Reclined Potato". Then after a few area announcements the show closes with an improv session that starts pretty uplifting but then devolves into a somewhat hectic psychedelic swirl. Lines were drawn, echos where echoed, samples were sampled and much fun was had by all!

Beat The Virus

Just like the photons that were created more than 13 billion years ago traveling at what we thought was a Cosmological Constant, time is an illusion. Were you that photon, you would not experience any time at all, the journey would happen in less than an instant. In fact everything to a photon moving at the speed of light happens in less than an instant, things do not appear or disappear, they are not created or destroyed, they just are, infinitely. The universe and everything that was ever and will ever begin and end, Is, infinitely.

When we get in touch with the present, we can be with the Is, all of the possible futures and pasts unfold before us, time and space are one and at once both static and dynamic. There are an infinite amount of ways to experience the Is, these are a few of our explorations of the Infinite Is.
