Special Stage '91  [YM2612 + SN76489]

3rd place winner in Round 4 of the Mega Drive Music Competition. The challenge for this round was simple: Make a tune in a time signature other than 4/4. I stayed in my comfort zone and went with 3/4 for this one, though a case could be made for this to be in 9/8 thanks to the swing rhythm.

Invincibility

Final Fall is intended as a prequel to the Nexus story. Capturing a debris-filled plummet back to Earth from the outer atmosphere, this theme combines the senses of hope and urgency. Act 2 is more unsettling in order to evoke a more present need for resolution.

01: Final Fall, Act 2

Quartz Quadrant is my favorite zone in Sonic CD, and the Past version is just so beautiful.. Not only with it's music, but the way it looks, I just HAD to do this. I also think the name "Quartz Quadrant" is very clever. It's like I've fallen in love with this level.
