This song is about a story my grandfather Joe Coomer told me when I was a kid.  He was a coal miner in Eastern Kentucky -Athol in Brethett County.  I asked him what they used to do for fun when he was younger.   My grandfather said that every Saturday night there was a dance somewhere back in the mountains where they lived and that everyone went to the dances
