r u m i n a t i o n s

the kitten moon
                           q   u   i   v   e   r   s
                    within my arms

                           like a phantom
               in a cabaret
                                 yearning for warmth

                     wearing guilt on the runway
                                           and whispering prayers
               as an afterthought
                                 before fading away

                          just like the mechanical oscillating
           of rosary beads
                                    wrapped around my hands,
                           resembling chains

                      tempting me
                              like a paramour
                                         with a secret

                      and even the renegade sun's kisses
                                       seem like a gunslinger's bullets,
                     a refrain of a song
                                                     difficult to forget

                                 you are a sunsetflower
                                      stuck in the backseat,
                       the one i ache to grasp
                                          as i trace the sky with my fingertips

                         and like the absolution
                                                you slipped into my coffee,
                   you haunt me like a piano key

                                             i ruminate over

absolution

every experience always initiates from
a flirting of daylight between satin curtains
and the sensation of its caresses
tiptoeing amidst the dissertation
of her mouth.

 

her tongue tasted like ash
and the blood from her lips
where his cigarettes and snake bites

decreed her drunk from

the kiss of his anathema
condemned her to a life

in the darkness.

 

the only light inside her room
illuminated the unseen things
that she hid beyond the mirror.

 

they say it’s just the heart that knows
but the mind unravels only what’s in between,
refracted in the eclipse of remembering.

 

a coliseum of stars hung in the balance
of the firmament within her vantage point
from the windowsill but, one by one,
they fell as the night howled with the wolves
for salvation in the shadow of a silent movie.

 

she eventually collapsed in slow motion rain
and the dialect of symphonies
escaped with her fading breath--
a misdiagnosis of a life once lived.

 

the emergence of sun and moon
in the tethering of clouds
could only define the divisions of love.

 

we lay here, floating in the air,
capable of only a fragment
                             of memory.

i had a delusion about you last night

you were screaming my name

shirtless in the twilight

my breath escaping in the moonlight

your face indecipherable

your signature all over my spine

fingers lingering inside my throat

we were both spinning on the dance floor

damp from the rain

drowning in the wrong lane

car abandoned on the highway

but the stars took you away from me

fell straight over the edge

of whatever it is on the other side

and all i have left is a broken guitar

and your photograph on the mantle

your ripped jeans smile the only proof

that you were mine

for a while

haunting my mind

your voice still singing in the dark

the astronomy of your body

lit in shades of violet electricity

now i’m drunk with words

scribbled on paper

your memory immortal

testifying love in whispers

and i shiver at sunset

exploding from the impact

a hung-over sunshine peeked through the skylight
while her clothes lay on the floor along
with the burnt-out paper lanterns
from yesterday’s rhapsody


she was your midsummer night’s dream
that tasted like apple vodka, a lollipop lolita
with a splash of gummi worm mascara,
sour cherry lips and an angel’s
blood on her fingertips


her choker of vintage bruises, custom-made by
her grandfather's bonfire hands, wrapped around her neck
like a cadena de amor strangling the afternoon sun
and sadistically choking daylight with its vines
as thunder exploded with a bang
and shook the earth, signifying a
warning from god himself


the both of you used to hang out on the rooftop
whenever it rained at night, illuminated the sky
with cherry bombs and watched them burn
with the nikolaschka-soaked stars


you took a small sip of hangman’s blood
and she gulped down a bloody mary
while capriciously pulling the philip morris
from your mouth, inhaled profoundly
and gave the cigarette back to you,
drowning herself in your papercut lullaby
softly murmuring in the sudden downpour


finger-painting dementia preacox poetry
on the walls of the motel room with tears,
all that remained of her reveries were
vestiges of nostalgia that slipped
from a zip-line of repercussions


she vomited your name on the pages of
scented stationery, hoping to immortalize your
memory between black and white citations
of days gone by because there were times
when she felt like a distressed star
that lost its grip from the sky
and a caterpillar that died
before turning into a butterfly


a hot mess in cigarette high rise jeans,
she murmured wishes on faded neon star
stickers that were still glued on the ceiling
and sang love songs just to
b r e a k

i do not know where

if there is breath

 weeping in memory of the april sun,
 buried in the melancholy of a
 distorted snapdragon sky

 i am a nascent reverie, perpetually
 sprouting verses from fingers

 chardonnay moon itself

 of surrealism, yearning to escape
 from subversive ghosts trapped
 within the lighthouse located

 ruins of spin-the-bottle promises
  
  
 if only i could walk on water
 made of metaphors, but i am
