Solid Steel (9th January) DK is back for his first mix of 2015 and after a brief intro from Doug Carn, it's straight into a batch of forthcoming music from Glenn Astro & Max Graef, Dan Snake and Anthony Naples from his album coming out on Four Tet's Text label. It's another spin for the huge Roots by Romare and classic deep house from 1995 from Marc Kinchen and Chez Damier under his Andthoney alias. 
Mix of the Year winner Clap! Clap! is remixed by Lurka Obeah, followed by a host of giveaways from Seven Davis Jr, Alex Patchwork, Photay and the Hudson Mohawke remix of Four Tet. Then more new music with Soundbwoy Killah and Beat Spacek with a track from the Modern Streets album out in 2 weeks, plus there's always time for another Fela Kuti track.

Track three is the first we hear from the bands singer, Haile Supreme. Since the inception of the collective, Haile, Flex, and Congo have been writing together, collaborating on new ideas, and reworking old sketches into fruition. "Stand Beside Yourself," is a brand new collaboration that features a fresh take on rhythm, paying homage to the bands love for dub style music.  Haile's soaring vocal depicts a message of humility and understanding. A humble response to the various facets of our world that continue to condemn others who come from a different culture or belief system.  In 2014 we have seen a resurgence of bigotry and a further separation of the people.  This is supposed to be behind us as a society but the political agendas seem to be perpetuating this style of rule. A moment outside of thyself is what this song is about.  A pure moment where all is seen for its true purpose not monetary or political value. Special Guest Ras Nebyu continues with a verse describing his process for which he achieves these moments in his own life, and the struggle that sometimes arises when he tries to stand beside his-self. Polished off with a blend of live and electronic sounds, the moments created musically in this track are equally as euphoric as that moment when you can truly remove and reflect.

Even fairly recent history can get quickly forgotten.  It occurred to me that the history of the antiwar movement in the 1960's and 1970's needs to be remembered, for all kinds of reasons, and I had an idea for doing that, so here it is.

It happened a half century ago
All across this sprawling nation  
The rising of a generation
It started slow and then gained speed

I woke up on the morning of December 21, 2015, to look at a BBC story.  "Kenyan Muslims shield Christians in Mandera bus attack" was the headline.  I read on:  "A group of Kenyan Muslims travelling on a bus ambushed by Islamist gunmen protected Christian passengers by refusing to be split into groups, according to eyewitnesses.  They told the militants 'to kill them together or leave them alone,' a local governor told Kenyan media."  I read more and wrote this.

It wasn't set in stone – there's no way they could have known

You see you've changed the world with the passing of a shawl
