Braulio Lam is a music producer and photographer from the border region of Tijuana and San Diego. Born in 1992, Braulio Lam has traversed the Tijuana music scene as a guitarist and member of different rock, jazz and electronic music projects. Braulio defines his sound as a mixture of guitar loops, synthesis, voices and live sound processing. Preferring to be called a guitarist, more so than an electronic musician, Braulio Lam has crafted a perfect soundtrack that inspires deep thought through wide isolation.

Experimental musician and audiovisual artist. Embrace transdiscipline and technology in the generation of contemporary audiovisual practices, her work is developed between livecoding, live cinema, animation, generative art and sound art.

We can find her music at the compilations ""Conditional"" Resonance Extra by Mike Hodnick ""Kindohm"" and Calum Gunn (UK) music with algorithms, SNU (MX) the Turning Torso Mexican Label and a few collaborations with Antimateria Sonora for the first ambient compilation and a remix for Seagit Arc.

She studied Architecture at UNAM and ENSAP-La Villette Paris. She has performed live events at the Multimedia Center, Alameda Art Laboratory, Ex-Teresa Arte Actual, Digital Cultural Center, Spain Cultural Center."

glyn maier presents: Paludal Heath Mix

Following his live performance with us at SOUP Manchester, Glyn Maier of Enmossed has kindly contributed a mix of soothing vapour for our third in the OT series.

All tracks ripped from vinyl 15-35% pitch down, digitally mixed on a train from Berlin to Amsterdam during the hottest day of summer 2022.

GLYN MAIER - OTMIX #3

Glyn Maier is a sound artist and field recordist living in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. Non-city outdoor spaces are essential to Maier’s practice. With a formal education in physics and
music composition, Maier’s preoccupations with natural objects, landscapes, and their social histories guide his recordings, which are then integrated into electronic works utilizing organic rhythms and complex timbres. Maier’s abstract synthesis work is deeply informed by sound design, but his larger focus is on the agency of both machine and environment. Another facet of Maier’s sonic practice is enmossed, the label he founded in 2017. Dedicated to contemporary sound, all profits are donated to positive causes of the artist’s choice, and materials for the tapes and records are hand-constructed out of recycled materials. Its catalogue is distributed internationally by shops such as Boomkat (UK), Rope Editions (Korea), and Tobira Records (Japan).

About the mix
The backbone of the mix is a segment of a longer vinyl DJ set I recorded utilizing a +/- 50% pitch range between two turntables recorded live on Halloween 2022. With an aim towards stretching sounds and favoring extended blends of tracks, the crossroads of fall and winter/past and future were melded into one, on a night deemed especially conducive to the intertwining of material and spirit.

That recording has found a new life through a dialogue with doris dana. In addition to editing the mix to fit the time-constraints of a radio program, dana also added live improvisations, dialogue snippets, and a few additional tracks.  dana has elevated this mix into a perennial listen, seasons stacked in superposition. The wheel is always turning, but this mix may place us at its hub for a moment.

@mirella-kroes’ presence in the Dutch techno scene is unmistakeable. Growing up on a diet of the tough, loop-oriented techno characteristic of the north of Holland where she was born, Kroes moved to Amsterdam as her musical horizons began to expand. Having cut her DJ teeth at iconic clubs such as Doornroosje, Trouw, Studio 80 and Cruquiusgilde, she now enjoys exploring musically deep, trippy soundscapes and organically building narratives that use space to upset conventional club rubrics.

So this is how this century's roaring 20s start.

A virus is keeping the whole world in check. Daily life is restricted to the bare minimum, nightlife doesn't happen at all. The rich become even richer and more people than ever become poor because of losing their source of income. On this note: Millions of artists, musicians, DJs and others alike are not only unable to do their jobs, but also have to find new ways of expressing themselves.

With UNWANTED, Drosssel's podcast host Bollek is giving some of them a stage to reflect upon their life in lockdown and speak for the greater whole, that's left unheard and feels unwanted in these times, when it's actually the virus that nobody wants.

The first time Grant Aaron (@insideout) went to an event with a chill-out room, everything clicked into place. It was the beginning of a long love affair with ambient and experimental music, with its sparsity and often beat-less nature leaving plenty of room for the imagination to take over. Grant went on to take up DJing in chill-out spaces himself before founding the influential platform Mysteries of the Deep in New York a decade ago. Initially a podcast, Mysteries has evolved over time into an event series and record label, and has established itself as one of the most revered sources for ambient music, both online and offline.

2021 is shaping up to be as busy a year as any other for Mysteries: there are releases in the works from Christina Chatfield (@anitserk), Mosam Howieson (@mos-how) and Grant’s label partner Oliver Chapoy (@ohm_sweet_ohm), plus plans to bring back the podcast after a brief hiatus. In the midst of this busy schedule, Grant took the time to showcase his cinematic, storytelling-driven style for our own podcast, with a mix recorded in a dense New York winter and inspired by the dampening of sound that comes with heavy snowfall.

Of the concept of his Patterns of Perception 80, Grant says: “The last eight or nine months have been some of the most difficult that I’ve been through in several years. A lot of it has to do with my work situation, which has been incredibly challenging and pushed me to rethink many things in my life. Then you have the pandemic, which has been this overarching theme for so many, most just trying to get through each day. But then there are these rays of light. I always try to be optimistic and hopeful about stuff, even when that can be really tough, so while this mix is very solemn, there are rays of light coming through.”
