Happy new year and welcome to 2024! Bright Patterns welcomes Garçon from Switzerland for this new chapter of the show. He’s a resident at Elysia in Basel and co-runs Amenthia Recordings with Agonis. More often than not, we have the pleasure of hearing his deep cerebral explorations of rhythm, building sets and mixes with thoughtful intention for the dance floor. While I and many others enjoy these recordings again and again, he presents a softer side here that’s equally as brilliant. “I wanted to play music i'd like to listen to in the morning or stay in bed to” he added. The Circle Stage awakened on Saturday morning as Glisten opened the Circle Stage, weaving a tapestry of sound that felt both otherworldly and deeply intimate. A fusion of lush, ambient melodies and intricate, trippy drum rhythms—felt like an invocation of a day dream-state. It was as if we had been transported by a blue lotus flower to a space where time slowed, and the air shimmered with a surreal beautiful vibration. Chimeric, organic forms seemed to sprout from the music itself, growing, twisting, and blooming in rhythm, expanding not just our imagination but our hearts, through the creation of a unspoken connexion between space and people.

Contributing our latest episode is London’s ANNX, a regular figure within the city’s cutting-edge undercurrent whose many contributions include co-curation of the Whomp, Perspectives, and once-shrouded Magick events, and a residency at the beloved Above Below festival. Anna’s tireless dedication to the scene goes hand-in-hand with her unmistakable talent behind the decks, as evidenced by an impressive repertoire of mixes and set recordings, and which I was fortunate enough to witness first-hand last summer in the Chilterns. Here Anna demonstrates her well-honed craft over the course of two meticulously plotted hours, diving seamlessly into manifold forms of deep, heavy psychedelia before emerging in a wave of euphoric bliss.
