David is a die-hard record collector who has been playing around the North of Spain and across Europe for over fifteen years, particularly in Barcelona where he’s played in most of the main clubs. He normally builds his sets with a selection of hypnotic, tribal and deep music.

For over three years he’s been focused on Escala de Grisos, his monthly local radio show, where he intersperses ambient, techno and anything in between with conversation and interviews around the music.

CSL 13_10 Detroit To Rome Via Glasgow

This tuesday’s back to back session on @caldera-caldera’s @1btn show went effortlessly well. Thanks very much to Malte for reaching out to suggest the collaboration, all based on his instinctual hunch that our musical styles would resonate - he couldn’t have been more correct….this was a magical meeting of minds, musically we really gelled, and I found the whole process highly enjoyable and inspiring. Don’t DJ breaks rules. He takes risks. He goes with his heart and not his head. The music he makes is littered with odd sound sources, from oversized flutes to the sound of crushed plastic cups to frog noises, and his rhythms are always complex and challenging. He releases it on Fullfridge Music, Berceuse Heroique, and also runs his own Disk and is a master of fusing different sound worlds into compelling new forms. 

And that’s the case on the podcast he’s done for us. “I got drunk and recorded an all over the place old time favourites mix. it’s cursed,” he says. That means it’s a raw, instinctive selection with the mistakes left in and plenty of tough riding transitions that make it all the more thrilling. It’s exactly the kind of approach you would expect from the man: who else could squeeze in the likes of MC Hammer, Neneh Cherry, Frak and DJ Sotofett and still make it work? This is truly the work of a standalone DJ.

@marco_shuttle, real name Marco Sartorelli, has carved out a distinct sound for himself amongst his peers. After receiving a fashion degree from Central Saint Martins, and spending some years working in the fashion industry, the Italian-born, Berlin-based DJ broke out with The Vox Attitude EP in 2011. In the years since, he’s transitioned into producing and DJing full time, with a considerable amount of releases on reputable techno labels such as Peter Van Hoesen’s Time To Express, Donato Dozzy’s Spazio Disponibile, the Bunker New York and his own record label, Eerie. His productions and DJ set sit somewhere in the sweet spot between controlled, heady techno and euphoric, explosive, vast dancefloor soundscapes. Ahead of his set at the Bunker NY party, Marco Shuttle will join us in the studio for a live set and a chat on his early beginnings, forging a relationship with the Bunker and what he has in store for 2019.

Kia is a Melbourne based DJ. She has a penchant for subtle grooves and emotive shifts between genres, with a style very much centred around bass heavy rhythms and deeper shades of techno and IDM.

Iota is the anonymous project of another member of Melbourne’s dance music community. Focusing on minimalistic shades of electronic music, Iota seeks to create the most with the least possible. 

This recording is the first collaborative effort between the pair, where they seek to channel their otherwise opposed musical leanings into one cohesive sound.
