We're happy to have the man like Toby Tobias on board for this one, a true London digger, DJ, producer and man about the city. 

Toby's been in the game for a minute or 2 and he's been grafting away for years releasing music on top shelf labels like Rekids, ESP Institute and Futureboogie to name just a couple. His original productions and re-edits have found their way into discerning selectors bags across the world and TT is a dope DJ himself too, as this mix shows. He's also a collector of rave and dance culture ephemera and his recent zine (a collab with Klasse Wrecks - link below)showcases some of his deep archive. 

Clocking in at 2.5 hours, Toby's mix runs the gamut from glacial ambient to stepping dubwise electronics, to pristine house, techno deep digs and way beyond. It's a proper mix, made by someone who puts in work to find great records and it's the ideal way to kick off this years GGHQ mix.

“I am deeply moved by the interaction between the organic and the synthetic, the ever evolving symbiotic relationship between man and machine. The line between where one starts and the other ends has become increasingly blurred. This dynamic is particularly poignant in San Francisco, a city where “Tech” and Art appear at once at odds and in harmony. My set is inspired by and dedicated to the artists who live in that margin and whose work aims to highlight that tenuous relationship between the analog and the digital. This is one of many odes to San Francisco.”

Back on his HIFI/LOFI home base, Franz Matthews continues his habit of turning up in
unexpected sonic spaces. Night Tales finds him delving into a more introspective, deep, and
melancholic palette, while preserving the organic warmth and groove-driven energy that define his
ever-evolving sound.

The EP’s opening tale, Again, takes us on a melancholic night ride through the ever-repeating ups
and downs of life, where darkness and light follow one another in an endless cycle - soundtracked
by an orchestra of lush synths, soft rhodes melodies, dreamy guitars, and Franz’s delicately
crafted vocals.

Howling at the Moon dives deeper into the night, driven by hypnotic percussion, dark synth
stabs, and haunting vocals that summon a sense of collective trance. The track builds toward a
wordless vocal chant that feels both human and otherworldly, unfolding into a swaying, almost
tango-esque groove where rhythms subtly intertwine.

Closing the EP, You & I stands apart — restored from a nine-year-old lost writing session, this
nostalgic yet hopeful electronic pop track felt right at home within the EP, where its warm house
textures and Lights Out’s delicate, heartfelt vocals wrap up these Night Tales with a timeless sense
of longing and connection.
