We woke up from cryo sleep a few weeks back as we arrived to the Tuldorah system. Things have been slow as we adjust to being awake. It's been nice to play Go with Zaid. And Anh is fun to be around, though they sing a lot when doing their chores and it's kind of driving me nuts. Space can be hella boring at times. But today, looking at the planets of Tuldorah in the navigation pane, I felt that sense of wonder that got me into this in the first place.

The year hadn't been very fruitful. We explored yet another planet that ended up being a gas giant. But today, our radar picked up the signal of a previously unidentified rogue planet, which we have named Ortali. It seems to have lined itself up to orbit around the Tuldorah system. This behaviour is fascinating and something we agreed our expedition should research more deeply. We have set the coordinates to Ortali's proximity. While we get there, we'll continue to chart some orbital models and run scans of its surface.

We haven't seen much from Ortali yet, but we are eager to keep exploring. Its surface is unlike anything we have seen before. In appearance it is chitinous, but upon interaction it is incredibly dense and solid. We have discovered several tendril-like lifeforms that sprout from the surface. They are gelatinous, hairy, and gently ondulate. They are not hostile. We have taken some samples to analyze their composition. I can't wait to see what hides in other regions of Ortali.

I am deep into the chasm. Things seemed safe enough but I suddenly got separated from Anh and Zaid. I try to make my way back but the path seems to change every time. The life forms are becoming much denser, they seem to be reacting to my presence. I can't shake this feeling of being watched, puppeteered even. It sends shivers down my spine. I feel like Ortali... is alive."

FR : Avec « Sortir la tête d’une pierre », Victor Taranne (aka Tarez) livre un premier album solo s’inscrivant dans le continuum de l’ambient, du dub et du downtempo. A l'intérieur : des mélodies naïvo-poétiques, des basses infraterrestres, des textures étranges et rapiécées ainsi que des enregistrements glanés entre l’Auvergne, la Charente-Maritime, la Seine-Saint-Denis et l’Amazonie. L’écoute est évasive et moléculaire : celle d’un monde se faisant et se défaisant dans un même mouvement. 

Traversé par le doute et l’inachèvement, « Sortir la tête d’une pierre » est aussi un hommage à un être vivant qui aurait passé la moitié de sa vie recroquevillé à l’intérieur d’une pierre. Celui-ci, stimulé par une lueur grandissante, aurait alors décidé de sortir de son trou et d’explorer le monde environnant, trébuchant ça et là sur quelques racines et se remémorant, avec nostalgie, le minéral qui l’a accueilli.

Les morceaux (à l’exception de « Interlude » et « Kouba ») ont été composés par Tarez entre février et avril 2024 en Auvergne et à Aubervilliers. Ils ont été initialement conçus pour un projet audiovisuel live, Polifera, formé avec Lucie Damase, dont la première représentation s’est tenue au Hardcoeur Festival en juillet 2024.

EN : With “Sortir la tête d'une pierre”, Victor Taranne (aka Tarez) delivers his first solo album in the continuum of ambient, dub and downtempo music. Inside it : naïvo-poetic melodies, infraterrestrial bass, strange, patched textures and recordings gleaned from Auvergne, Charente-Maritime, Seine-Saint-Denis and Amazonia. The listening is evasive and molecular: that of a world making and unmaking itself in the same movement.

Filled with doubt and incompleteness, “Sortir la tête d'une pierre” is also a tribute to a living being who spent half his life curled up inside a stone. Stimulated by a growing glow, he decides to emerge from his hole and explore the surrounding world, stumbling here and there over a few roots and wistfully recalling the mineral that welcomed him.

The tracks (with the exception of “Interlude” and “Kouba”) were composed by Tarez between February and April 2024, around Auvergne and Aubervilliers. They were originally conceived for a live audiovisual project called Polifera formed with Lucie Damase, first performed at the Hardcoeur Festival in July 2024.
