"I had a lot of fun recording this mix. It consists of road-tested favourites from the past year, new finds and some older go-tos. Recently I’ve been trying to incorporate more off-grid, non-dance music into club sets—playing around with layering unquantized styles to get that nice rough around the edges feel. I think it’s a good representation of what I try to do in a club setting — rapid cycling through different genres and styles in a way that throws you around a bit but remains danceable. All of it indebted to and geared towards the soundsystem. A lot of three-deck action and healthy dub siren usage throughout. Thanks for inviting me to contribute to the series!"

Kiosk Radio is an online community radio and streaming platform broadcasting 24/7 from a wooden kiosk in the heart of Brussels’ historic 'Parc Royal'. The radio was founded in 2017 and broadcasts a wide range of music genres, from jazz to experimental, from rock to electronic music.

Joining us this month is one of the most consistent producers around at the moment. In the past six years Alex has been releasing exciting material through local Stockholm labels such as Abdulla Rashim's Northern Electronics, Bossmuik, and Aniara Records which put out his first record back in 2010. Aniara Records is also responsible for putting out the majority of his output as one half of Genius Of Time, the irresistible DJ/Live act he formed with his good friend Nils Krogh but the duo's punchy releases also found a home on Clone's Royal Oak and Gerd Janson's Running Back. The past two years have seen him focusing primarily on his solo output as Dorisburg and his most ambitious project to date arrived earlier this year on John Talobot's Hivern Discs in the form of the Irrbloss LP.

Today he's prepared a very special mix of mysterious and rare hypnotic House cuts which he recorded straight to cassette through a studio console and analogue outboard. He told us the mix is for "late night internet exploring...something to get lost within while browsing the unknown corners of the web... or possibly what a rave could sound like on an abandoned space station". In compiling a remix 12” for the most recent Homemade Weapons LP - Gravity, we approached 2 titans of underground electronic music who have both been supportive of Homemade Weapons and Samurai Music. Donato Dozzy and Tommy Four Seven have each been utilising our releases in their sets and we have been inspired and grateful for their fearless deployment of drum and bass to their predominately Techno audiences.

No stylistic directive or requests were given. We trusted these two gifted artists to interpret the music in their own unique fashion, but in all honesty expected remixes around the techno tempo. What we received back are 2 landmark drum and bass versions that re-define the nexus between Drum and Bass and Techno.

New York's DJ Voices is drawn towards the unexpected. We spoke at a Japanese restaurant in Dublin (where she'd later play to a crowd of Halloween revellers and well-dressed 20-somethings), and she pointedly said that she would play a whole set of up-tempo tracks slowed down using the CDJ's wide function (which can slow or speed up the track as much as 100%). It's a tactic she makes use of at several points during her Truancy Volume, which manages to feel both like a club set and a soundtrack mix made just with you, the listener, in mind. Having recently watched a lengthy interview with DJ Voices conducted by Willie Burns for his Talk Radio series, we opted against rehashing her total backstory here. Instead, we talked about her current European tour, her work as booker for New York club Nowadays, her goals as a DJ and the music in her record bag.
