This is one of my favorite mixes I've ever recorded...I have a version with crowd noise too. Another example of the style Charles and I are students of: funky, raw, soulful dance music. This instalment of the Bside Incoming series comes from London. A DJ and Producer of equally impressive measure, affiliated to the Touching Bass and BBZ collectives, a regular on Balamii Radio, and a truly passionate collector with a deep, deep knowledge of music. It’s a pleasure to welcome… Shy One.

From DJing on community radio at the age of 14 and warming up for her father, to cementing herself as a main player on line-ups at incredible parties across London and beyond, she already has an unquestionable pedigree behind the decks.
Her productions are always keen to keep pace with the capital’s thriving grime scene, but her tracks always stand out from the crowd and her beats are authentic to her many musical influences, this episode being testament to that wide array of inspiration. 

Her tastes glide across styles, while always sticking to her own sound: the hypnotic rhythms and irresistible broken beats that have deeply inspired her, and translated through to her outstanding discography.

Bside Incoming: Shy One

Heidy P. has a deep love for vocal house, groovy disco and uplifting rhythms. Her journey started 15 years ago with a show on a college radio. She fell in love with the craft and never looked back. She’s all about bringing love, high energy and fun to the dance floor. Over the last years, she has won over crowds at renowned clubs such as Good Room, House of Yes, Lux Fragil, Kitkatclub, as well as having a string of guest mixes on online radio stations. She’s currently back In Montreal after spending a few years in Lisbon. She hosts a monthly show on Radio Quantica and produces music with her project Rhythm Phazer. In 2019, they also launched a post-punk edit label named Perigo de Morte.

"I made this mix in the middle of a snow storm in Montreal. Much like everyone else, I’ve been missing the nightlife community, being covered in sweat on the dancefloor, catching the sunrise. This mix was channeling all this. It’s (hopefully) positive, blending in sensuality,  high energy and emotions.. It features some recent favorites as well as some 90’s/80’s throwbacks. I closed the set with a soon to be released Rhythm Phazer track that has been giving me hope in these weird times. With love, xo"

Carlos Sanchez is a Brooklyn native whose early studies in music began in church at the age of six leading him to The High School of Music & Art, and then took him on tour with a popular gospel group while still in his teens. On that solid base of musical training, he’s built a successful career as a respected DJ/Producer/Songwriter/Vocalist and adjunct college professor among many other things.

From his first clubbing experiences in the early seventies until now, Carlos has found inspiration in the classics like Stevie Wonder as well as eclectic jazz sounds, the likes of Lonnie Liston Smith, Gil Scott Heron, George Duke, Herbie Hancock and Donald Byrd. “My first DJ influences came from Brooklyn mobile DJs (like Grand Master Flowers or DJ Maboya), and other club spinners including Tee Scott, Nicky Siano & Walter Gibbons.

Energy he has interpreted into his own diverse musical style that has earned him noteworthy residencies from his debut at Leviticus, NYC to his incredible sets at ANALOG BKNY and earlier at a popular weekly party RHYTHM, that was an ongoing event on Sunday night that ran for over four years. A respected retail veteran whose ear is equally legendary, Carlos is a versatile crowd-pleaser who is known for being capable of spinning in many different rooms and for any age group.

When not spinning in the club, you can catch Carlos in the studio where his keyboard and vocal arrangement skills are often employed by top artists, producers and on his own behalf, the Carlos Sanchez Movement. Beyond that, Professor Sanchez also spear- headed the first class at Pace University where he innovated the city’s only academic look/listen to this thing called house entitled: World Music/The Underground. Told through a structured curriculum that included field trips to clubs and welcomed in pioneering industry members to relate their tales . . . . . the story of house was brought to a new generation of dance music lovers.

Preparing to release Carlos Sanchez Movement IV EP entitled “GRACE” (Sacred Rhythm Music). A breezy and inspirational listen to a well-constructed mid-tempo dance vocals by Grammy Award winning and nominated artist, is destined to become another genre classic.

Carlos is also a published writer for www.stereotimes.com, an online high-end audiophile magazine, were he reviews high-end audio components as well as jazz and other eclectic musical styles for the audiophile enthusiast.
