“Roman Chappelle is a Dj and recording artist based in downtown Manhattan.

What’s up guys. I feel great to be able to bring you this tonight. Let me start with this-I’m from Japan. I was raised in a military lifestyle, I moved around and I spent most of my youth growing up in various cities in Asia and the states. I spent 10 years in Japan and I really enjoyed the freedom and endless exploration of the environment. I think New York provides a similar feel of diversity and the unknown, and I was drawn to it. I came here to make music in 2018, and although things have been a little crazy the last two years, I would do it again.

I’ve been inspired by the spirit of dance that I find in clubs like Le Bain and Good Room. Going after a bartending shift to just let it out and dance was something that became really important to me. When I play, I play things that I want to dance to, and I’ve learned other people want to dance to it to.

Generally my sets are pretty club oriented, and if you check them out on my SoundCloud they are basically all live recorded in the club with a steady climb of bpm. It works in a party, but recently I’ve been going back and listening to some of the mixes that originally got me interested in DJing like Jamie XX boiler room sets or Four Tet and Daphni at plastic people, stuff like that. I’ve been inspired by it, and I think this is a unique opportunity to not have to stick to a party format. I’ve also wanted to incorporate some Japanese sounds for a while. I hope you enjoy.

I have quite a few events coming up, and my new one is called City Of Dreams. I want to bring out the dancers, and I want to do it like it’s not often done, especially in the city. People should be free to express themselves, have fun and connect. I think people come looking for that in New York and I can give it to them.

I’m closing on 7/9 at elsewhere starting at 2/3 am. Come dance.
