With a penchant for off-kilter drum and bass, bass, dub and dubstep, sina meticulously curates sets that mix and match elements of atmospheric trip hop, murky post-DnB and the mischievous 2-step sounds of the 90/00s. Witnessing sina grace the decks at Inward Goods festival was a nostalgic luxury - I felt like I’d stepped into some form of magical Y2k swamp party, where only the best of early 2000s drum and bass were being thrown down. Sina’s contributions to the community extend beyond the decks and into the realm of party planning and label curation (Secret World) whilst also forming ⅓ of the band dregs. Masa is originally from Japan but resides in NYC and is studded frequently along the lineups of NYC parties. I saw Masa open the main stage room at Sustain Release in September this year and his set was one of my favourites of the weekend. He's definitely one of those DJs who has mastered a massive range of styles and genres, with this mix a perfect showcase of his fluid but cohesive style and vast and impressive collection of music. It had me dancing down the street when I listened for the first time :')

Introduce yourself? Pronouns? Where do you currently reside? 

Hello, I’m Jake Muir (he/him). I make music and DJ. I’m from LA, spent several years in Seattle, and currently living in Berlin. 

What sound would you listen to… if it was the only thing you could listen to 24/7?

Ice melting 

Describe in detail your favorite place in the club?

I tend to situate myself in the middle so I get the proper stereo spread. If I forget my earplugs, in the back. If a friend is playing, I try to be closer to the front.

Best gig of your life so far?

Honcho Campout. It was really special all around.

What is the theme song of your mind on 100mg edible?

If you could transfer all your knowledge from what you do now into something completely different, what would it be and why?

If I wasn’t working in sound, I’d probably be into mixology. There’s a lot of parallels between making cocktails and music. Some people referred to Philip Jeck as an alchemist. 

Longest you've stayed up and why?

It might be when I played through Metal Gear Solid 3 in one go, 24 hrs, over a thanksgiving break back in high school.

This guest mix from Vietnamese band Rắn Cạp Đuôi_, on my friend Ziur’s Refuge Worldwide program, might be my favorite mix of the year. It’s super wild and kinda plays with the idea of what a mix can be.


Any advice to upcoming DJs/producers? 

Develop your own voice, even if it’s super niche, and don’t be afraid to take risks. Think about your own background and identity and what you can bring to the table with that. 

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

More chillout rooms, genre/style hopping, and care for one another.

Hi Gi Gi! Recently Gi Gi released this amazing new album on Index Records. This mix is made to accompany that release, and it wholehearted hit some of the same moods textures as on the record.
We came in touch with Gi Gi’s sound through this gorgeous cassette on Quiet Time Tapes, followed by the one on Good Morning Tapes. Check them both. This mix is like the shimmering of the sunshine after a rainy day. Triphop & broken RnB into the periphery of your dreams.

@napmusick : The mix is an amalgamate of disparate inspirations behind the label. Here you’ll find music from some of my friends who inspired the label and who were also behind some of the first releases (Scott Gailey, Yu Su, Spencer Davis). Likewise, there’s a lot of formative records across various genres and labels which were some of the instigators behind starting a label. A lot of these I found working at Dandelion Records which was a shop I frequented and worked at during my teens/ early 20’s in Vancouver. Shout out to Jeff Knowlton and Les the record man – my music dads!
