Self-confessed "playful grump" Andrew Wilson brings a sense of calm and ease to his musical creations, whether it's his deep house and breaks-driven productions under Andras or his ambient musings as Art Wilson and Wilson Tanner.

As Andras he's charted releases for a wealth of labels, including regular appearances on Dopeness Galore and his own Punp imprint, and instalments for the likes of Public Possession, Superconscious and Beats In Space. 

As well as his efforts under this moniker, individually as Art Wilson and, alongside Eleventeen Eston as Wilson Tanner, he explores the softer side of his production abilities, with releases via Growing Bin and Efficient Space showcasing this beautiful concotion of ambient, new age and experimental.

We invited him to take control of this week's Ransom Note mix which drifts through soft rock, downtempo r'n'b and house, promising to lift your spirits in this new week of lockdown...

This week, it is with great pleasure that we can bring you a mixtape selected from an impressive record collection, complied bu dedicated crate digger, and true purveyors of global sounds: La Casa Tropical.

Hailing from Toronto, but spending lots of their of time in Johannesburg where the record label has taken its deep rooted musical influence, La Casa Tropical crew are on a mission to release and reissue the feel good party gems that they have discovered on their African adventure. 

No wonder then, that our past guest REES opened his Bside account with this sunny song from their 2018 reissue of Bayete’s Blue Monday, just a little taste of the amazing music they have discovered in South Africa :

Their quest has allowed them to share some amazing music with their followers and fellow party goers across Europe and the US. But, today they will be sharing with the world the jewels of their journey from the Bside of their collection.

When it comes to the physical world, sound is basically understood as a phenomenon of motion, first and foremost, as it concerns the movement of waves through the air and across bodies. However, when it comes to our humanly presence, they can also move us by other means that lie beyond the physicality perceived by our senses and that's how music can create emotional responses, entice physiological reactions strongly personal in interpretation, as well as convey commonly shared meanings. Such is the fertile hinterland of possibilities where our series managed to thrive so far, mainly through the inventiveness of its diverse guests, who bring their backgrounds and visions into the mix in each of their mixes, showing us fantastic new realms of motion and emotion. This episode is no exception, with a young carioca adding his own exquisite flavours and bold taste to our already hefty repertoire of aural adventures. Vitor Zasou's vibrant set is most certainly set to take anyone on a journey through sonic sensibilities deeply rooted in balearic realities and clearly indebted to nineties sonorities, but that are absolutely original in the way they put us in motion, both within and without our bodily existence.

Josh – ‘Keysie’ to his buds – is a certified good sort. He’s one of the key figures behind the infamous and beloved Hopkins Creek Music Festival. Hosted in the Kulkurt volcanic crater in northwest Victoria, the festival has a unique atmosphere that attracts a tight-knit community of dedicated music enthusiasts. The festival’s slogan is ‘Music & Mateship’, and their warm and welcoming approach resonates with us at Waxflower. They keep it boutique, they keep it together.

Keysie is known across town for his impeccable taste in music and thoughtfully curated sets. This little excursion includes a seamless blend of sophisticated jazz and timeless soul records. It’s a warm mix that motivates daydreaming and thought-surfing. It’s a mix with steez. Baby, that’s Keys.
