Love Injection Mixes

Hi everybody, the MFT show is back with the legend that all the English DJ's simply call "the Daddy". Paul Murphy. 

He is most certainly the first English Jazz Dance DJ and was above all the resident of the famous "Jazz Room" Parties at the Electric Ballroom in London. Still a DJ and now the label Manager of the fantastic Jazz Room Records, Paul Murphy continues to share his culture and collection by reissuing the marvels of Jazz. For MIMS and MFT he agreed to do a 1 hour mix as a guest filled with forgotten treasures and timeless classics.

For the 1st hour of this episode, I mostly focused on a selection of future jazz classics starting with spiritual and ambient jazz like Sven Wunder, Mia Doi Todd feat. Jeff Parker and Sarah Hanahan.

I wanted to highlight new Jazz funk like the cover of "Date with the Rain" by East Coast Love Affair, Zopelar and excluded the new release of the French label Chuwanaga "Latitude". As I often do, I concluded this hour of mixing with the Broken Beat releases of "Lord & Dego" and the remix of Sean Khan by the relentless Kaidi Tatham.

MY FAVORITE THINGS — Show #34 w/ Paul Murphy (Hosted by Psycut)

This is me on my tenor sax playing various instrumental parts from the 2000 Cadets show "We are the Future" along with the recording for fun. I put about 15-20 hours into learning it, cleaning up parts, and memorizing it over about 45 days. I have not worked on the second and third movements much, so there are some rough areas, but It was by far my best full run of the music. I did well on practicing the opener, so I just kept going to see how things went with the rest. I recorded on my phone placed behind me on the far side of my room because I had nothing better to record with at the time, and it is hard to get a good balance from the speakers and my playing on the quieter parts. I do not advocate for having woodwinds in DCI.

Love Injection is a New York music and culture monthly fanzine in print since February 2015, founded by DJs, archivists, and audio enthusiasts Paul Raffaele and Barbie Bertisch. Their namesake record label launched in 2020. Avid record and audio enthusiasts, Paul is also an art director and Barbie writes and performs music with various projects.

Love Injection With Barbie And Paul @ The Lot Radio 04 - 06 - 2019

Embrace the limitlessness of Universal Love with this heady, affectionate mix from NYC's own Barbie Bertisch and Paul Raffaele of Love Injection. 

Love Injection is a New York-based music and culture fanzine in print since 2015. Co-founded by Barbie Bertisch and Paul Raffaele, it quickly established itself as a critical platform for celebrating the constantly shifting cultures of dance music in New York. In addition to the print zine, the two host a weekly radio show with the same name on Brooklyn’s The Lot Radio Saturdays from 10am-12pm EST. Love Injection has produced nightlife exhibits at MoMA PS1 (NY), White Columns Gallery (NY), The Music Center (LA), curated and hosted panels for Resident Advisor, and produced shows for radio stations like Dublab (LA) and WorldwideFM (London). 

Universal Love is a quarterly fundraising party with a growing community joined by the principles of social progress, good sound, uplifting music, and open minds. They play these parties end-to-end and try to challenge perceived norms of genre, tempo, technique (or lack thereof). 

Paul and Barbie also produce and host the New York Chapter of Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy’s co-educational Classic Album Sundays championing communal, active listening on world class hi-fi components. The New York sessions are currently held monthly at Nowadays in Brooklyn once per month.

Separately, Paul runs the Most Excellent Unlimited imprint and Barbie plays in Seedy Films, a punk band under Luke Jenner’s Manono Records imprint.
