Next up on the series we have Brighton based producer/DJ Caldera. Caldera has always caught my ear with his amazing/unique taste in percussion and rhythms - usually blended with a mysterious + dubby/vibey melodic touch.
Very happy to have him on the series as well as his track Endless Roots on the launch VA for Mirror Tapes.

Introduce yourself?

Hi there ~ I’m Jesse. I live in LA, run a label called Motion Ward, walk dogs, love food, make music with my friend John, DJ from time to time, and love my friends and family. Music is a way of developing emotional closeness with people for me :) 

Where did this gig take place?

This gig took place in Turin, which is in northern Italy right next to the Alps. The venue was a DIY space run by Misto Mame Collective and affiliates. About 9 people pay for the space to be able to operate monthly, and the feeling of community there is really strong and sweet. It was a highlight for me on this recent tour I did. Also really loved the people ❤️

What did you drink as you played?

I had one beer and water lol, and at the very end someone brought me a glass of red wine :) Was trying to minimize the amount I was drinking so I didn’t have to go pee, but eventually I had to loop a track and bolt to the bathroom :X (can you spot the moment?) 

Favorite moment in the mix?

Probably when it starts to escalate after the first few tracks ~ it reminds me of when the energy that night palpably shifted and felt like the dance floor was turning into an amoeba 🦠

Beating the waves

Volume 30 comes from musician and writer Nico Niquo. His LP “Timeless” from last year released on Daisart really did a number on us, as did his book “Snakes On The Grass” which muses on the evolution / current state of ambient music and the effects late capitalism has had on it (very vaguely speaking). We’re honored to share this mix he’s sent over that is made up entirely of music from him and his friends in Melbourne. Evidence of a fertile scene!
