In the magical surroundings of the Ancient Technology Centre, we spent the evening/night/morning pinching each other as truly unreal scenes organically unfolded in front of us, like an animated tribal version of Marvin Gaye’s iconic album cover from “I Want You”.

A colourful journey across outernational cosmic sounds, through time and space and beyond any kind of borders, an immersive aural experience like only this earthouse can provide.

Total freedom in sound(s), in movement(s), in all forms of expressions, with moments of childlike purity rarely seen anywhere in a party situation. That circle around the 🔥 was just cosmic love incarnated.

This is the second part of the recording, some seven hours deep into the party, with the first couple of hours of the b2b between Cedric Woo and Belle Bête.

Life Recorder has been travelling since the mid nineties through the various types of house and techno that is strongly influenced by Detroit & Chicago music. Originally known as Kriss Kortz where he was born and raised in Geneva's suburbs, he is now based in Marseille, south of France. He started to hook up with the turntables and vinyl around the mid nineties with music production in 2005. 

With his first release in 2006 with French label, 'Code 316 Recordings', he has since drastically progressed and in the past couple of years has shown a new and matured introspective phase. This has given birth to new releases on quality vinyl labels such as Miles Sagnia's 'Atmospheric Existence' in the UK and on the acclaimed 'No Look Back' EP on Keith Worthy's Aesthetic Audio imprint in Detroit, 2012. In 2013 he had the opportunity to show more of a deep house face by remixing Future Vision's 'Trinidadian Deep' for the new US deep house label, Plastik People Recodings.

Forthcoming releases in 2014 are coming on Bokhari Records, Appian Sounds, Argumento and more ...

For the 12th show on Cowbell Radio I am honoured to bring you an exclusive mix from Amsterdam based DJ & Producer - Mr Mendel.  We split the mix into 3 parts for the show but here is the full version in all it's glory.

Mr Mendel started out spinning records at the infamous Duivel Cafe Bar, a place well known as a hub of raw hip-hop. This landed him a residency at Freakin Ill, an old school club night at Bitterzoet, Amsterdam.

However Mr Mendel soon discovered that hip hop just wasn't enough. His job at Waxwell Records was introducing him to soul, disco, afro and brazil records, and he instantly fell in love with the smell of dust, thousands of album covers and the crackling sound of old vinyl.

As Mr Mendel honed his DJ’ing skills he developed an all-round style; collecting and spinning dance music from all corners of the globe with only one condition “as long as it’s good soulful music”.

Always selecting passionate and intriguing tunes, expect to hear sexy melodies, funk filled basslines, energetic drums, exotic percussion and euphoric vocals.

Sometimes you’ll catch him play banging disco and house, while at other times he might surprise you with downtempo soul and tropical vibes. Mr Mendel also curates the tropical playlist for 22tracks Amsterdam.

Definitely a kindred spirit, it's this wide and varied taste that led us to ask him to do a mix for the show.

As a DJ, Mr Mendel currently holds down residencies in Amsterdam at parties such as 'I Love Vinyl', 'Wicked Jazz Sounds' and 'Doka'.  He's both influenced by and has played alongside DJ's such as Rich Medina, Rahaan, Sadar Bahar, John Morales, Lefto, Marcel Vogel, Rob Manga and KC The Funkaholic.

As a producer he has edited big tracks by the likes of Nina Simone and James Brown. Plus the Mr Mendel edit of 'Trio Ternura's' A Gira got support from the likes of Giles Peterson.

His recent 'Mr Mendel edits' on Basic Fingers has all but sold out in the shops but is still available on Discogs.

Mr Mendel's new track 'Far Away' is included on the forthcoming Lumberjacks Boogie Vol 1 12" - the EP also features tracks by Rayko, Em Vee aka Marcel Vogel and Man Made Music.

High up in the (new) disco mafia, Mr Mendel knows how to rock a party and there are loads of top selections on this world class mix.

Active as a DJ since 2009, Samuele boasts a decade of experience as resident at the Florentine party Lattexplus, where he accompanies and competes with the best international artists.

A tireless music researcher, his taste knows no limits and is constantly evolving. Deep house, acid, soulful, dub, techno, disco are just some of the genres that can be heard in his DJ sets, what counts for him is the feeling of the track, not the section in which it is categorised. 

On the same principle in 2017 he founded https://soundcloud.com/angismusic, an independent record label devoted to releasing music produced by emerging and non-emerging artists from all over the world. 
In addition to his role as A&R of the label, he is also in charge of organising events and exclusive listening sessions. 

Over the years, Samuele has been a guest at various prestigious venues in Italy, including Dude Club, Bunker, Link, Magick Bar and Vicious, and has had experience abroad in Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia and Germany. 

He has also taken part in radio shows such as Hessle Audio on Rinse FM, State Of Rhythm on Worldwide FM and NTS, and more recently curated his own monthly programme on Universal Rhythms Radio.

A special one-hour mix of unreleased music featuring records from New Sector Movements on First Word Records, Alex and Stephane Attias on Visions, Chris Gray on SAFT and more.
