For our fourth entry in the PPRZ Podcast series, we have a mix from Brooklyn's @tomsobolikmusic

Sobolik is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work as a DJ, producer, promoter and label head seeks to open dialogues across cultures and practices of modern club music. Co-heading the UK-based label All Centre alongside Simkin and DJ Pitch, Sobolik has been turning heads over the last year with their futuristic club cuts on labels such as 3024, CloudCore, and early reflex. Sobolik's world is filled with colour and hyperkinetic energy - not fitting in one box, their output reacts to a broad palate of styles across North American and UK club music traditions. Their most recent full-length record, “Iris”, released on All Centre in late 2021, pulls together molten digital sound design, glossy melodics, jacking techno rhythms, and hard-hitting breakbeats across its 4 tracks. As a promoter and organizer, Sobolik curates a bimonthly party called inside voices as well as masterclasses and production/remix contests for the All Centre Discord server.

this mix was recorded in two takes in a very messy Bushwick bedroom on the treasured XDJ-RX2. starting from a half-time queer steppas wiggle moment, the mix slowly picks up speed and cuts its way thru a tangled forest of serrated percussion and slippery bass weight, from the ASMR techno tingles of Metrist and Oyubi to the galloping wubs of Mosca and Villager. the energy tapers off into a hardgroove shuffle before a trio of bitchy bubblers (including a special bootleg from the mix maestro :^)) give way for a walloping finale of cantankerous breaks n' bass. gunfingers primed for forthcoming heaters by friends of the show Sha Ru, Lithe, Xen Chron, and Sputnik One 💨🚀

re:ni's secret weapon is the way she plays with rhythm with such ease.
Whether banging 130bpm club tracks or nailing down slick UK techno,
keeping it deep with 100bpm rollers freaking you out with acid she is
a devilishly dexterous DJ. Because of this she has become an NTS
regular, firm favourite at places like De School and Dimensions and
counts Timedance boss Batu and the Livity Sound crew as fans.

In the mix for us she serves up all sorts of futurist beats that are
wired up with electronics or stripped back to more haunting and
hypnotic sound worlds. Reni's ability to manipulate rhythm and
texture, time and space is utterly thrilling and finds her go from
slowed down dub to high octane minimalism and on to jungle with ease
over the course of this slick 90 minute selection.
