In early 2021 I had the pleasure of compiling and mixing a soundtrack for the online launch of Drat Magazine. Holding a deep affinity with the themes and semantics behind Esmeralda’s vision for the publication, I felt compelled to capture the essence of the digital escapism we grew up on. 

Honing in on the ambient, orchestral movements of god-player-mode PC gaming soundtracks that evoke the 3D rendered spaces and simulations of what modern suburban civilisation should look like, whilst later delving into the melancholy, bratty, ethereal, raw, emotional reality of a bygone youth. Featuring music from near and far, friends, enigmas, and heroes, here is a highly considered jumble of audio vistas.

Introduce yourself? Pronouns? Where do you currently reside? 1 fun fact about yourself?

Hello! I’m Ivy (she/ her) and I live in Eora (Sydney), Australia :-) + I have a 2 year old cat called Frankie 

Who/what currently inspires you music-wise that has nothing to do with music?

I’d say that my emotions generally inspire me, as well as different times of the day. I tend to get the most ideas when I’m trying to figure out what music to listen to in a particular setting - like whether I’m walking around the neighbourhood at dusk, at the park on a beautiful day, cooking something really yummy and comforting or if I’m in a bad mood and need to let some angst out haha


Favorite sound of the city? Describe how it makes you feel. 

I don’t know if this is specific to the city but I love the bird calls that magpies make - I can hear them outside my house early in the morning and it makes me feel like I’m on holiday in the country somewhere :-)

Cinnamon - a little spicy but also sweet and delicious ;P

What is your favorite party/collective where you reside and why?

Such a tough question! If I had to name a few - Nectar, Pure Space and Vibe Positive for always putting endless love and care into their events - from lineup curation to constantly working on how they can make spaces safer, more accessible and representative of Eora/ Sydney’s diverse music community :-) 

What was your best moment on the dance floor?

In 2019 Moopie and Bayu closed a small festival called Echo Flats that was a few hours drive away, they played like 4 - 5 hours of the best, grooviest tech house I’d ever heard until the sun came up - it was a life changing morning :’)

What is your favorite temperature? What kind of music goes well with it? 

Probably something between 25 - 28 degrees celsius with some downtempo RnB :-) 

Any advice to upcoming DJs? 

Practice makes perfect! 
Preparing/ pre-planning your sets - especially when you’re nervous about a gig
Backup your shit (!!!!!!)

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community? 

More 24hr licences for venues - less gronks - more tech house

Join Metropolitan Soul Museum for the grand opening of the Kulture Galerie release series in 2022.

Kulture Galerie is London-based duo Metropolitan Soul Museum's mix series, live every 2 months on Radio. The show's concept is to give an opportunity to the artists invited to select non-club / home listening music where a variety of influences and cultures and different dichotomies of the same form of expression. The various artists releases that will follow each year, will include 6 original tracks from the 6 artists involved in the shows.

'Kulture Galerie Year 1', out on a limited number of CDs distributed by Lobster Distribution and mastered by Nerang and Gestalt's Nørus, includes 6 non genre specific tracks from the first 6 guests: MSM's partner in crime Herzel (Hivern Discs, Uncanny Valley), Echocentric Records's boss Timo Deeprhythms, prolific US producer Aspetuck, Lyssna Records' main man Adam Stromstedt, Regelbau's affiliate K-Dallas under his Exo Ghost moniker and finally an original track from Metropolitan Soul Museum.

Soulseek started mid sumer 2021 together with IRL & DJ Cole Evelev - we wanted to create a party specifically for (outsider) dance music: hazy ambient, singing sine waves, calibrated shimmers, crushing bass drops, layered textures with crispy vocal loops provoking us to dance but also challenge us - leading us to a higher place which is...foggier? Audio Reflex returns with the ‘Reflex II’ EP!
Starting off the A side we have Padding out, a hypnotic, arpeggiated groover with a deep and long bass line carrying the tune from start to finish. We then have a smooth entrance into A2, a timeless Lullaby that will captivate the air frequencies until the end of time. A trance arpeggiated sequence flying throughout the track which finally connects with a massive bass guitar bass line that brings the funk and groove in a way that will bring all the hairs on your body to a code red, goosebump state. Its a mystery how this will work on the dance floors, but something to look forward to.
The B side then starts off with another deep and trance groover leading right into the hypnotic Fungusamongus. This track will bring you on a spiritual journey leading you to look deep inside yourself and connect some of the dots you never knew existed..

Floating between the little fluffy white orbs he dance atop a radiant blue backdrop which ran out of sight. He was flying – at peace with his own mind and thoughts, lost in cloud and as free as a bird.

Down below the worries of this world were far away – they could not dampen his wild spirits as he soared and drifted above oceans and great plains on a planet which seemed less and less like home with every passing moment. For he would never return – not to that place where they’d clipped his wings and stopped him from soaring like the wild and wonderful bird that he was.

Guava taps Alex Blake in for a guest feature on a track called ‘In Clouds’ from his forthcoming EP for the newly launched Tread Records. This is the first record forthcoming on the label and it send a nod to bass music heritage and UK dance music culture which has come before it.

Like her namesake, Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Beta Librae has shone brighter than ever over the last couple of years.

Taking her moniker from the brightest star in the zodiac constellation of Libra, she cut her teeth DJing regularly at Bossa Nova Civic Club after moving to Brooklyn from her home town of Spring Hill in Kansas. 

It was at this club that she also started her Technofeminism parties alongside friend, fellow DJ and Discwoman co-founder Umfang, a monthly event that showcases emerging talent, and now she can also be found in the booth for Nowadays as a resident.

Her skills extend to production, with her first release landing on the ever on point 1080p back in 2015, followed by two more albums for Lillerne Tape Club and Anthony Naples and Jenny Slattery’s Incensio, as well as a couple of EPs for Physical Therapy's Allergy Season. Also lending her touch on the remix for Yaeji in 2018, her most recent remix effort, of Cleveland's Gamma, is about to see a release on Amsterdam's Kalahari Oyster Cult.

Stepping up for this week's Ransom Note mix, Beta Librae weaves together the sounds she's become synonymous with as both a producer and a DJ; spaced-out ambience, minimal techno and deep, rhythmic house cuts...
