"Island Of My Own" is a summery pop-rock song performed by The Lovepools which features a bright production driven by an evolving synth riff, 80s drum loops, and funky synth-bass runs sounding in the territory of Prince and Michael Jackson. The instrumental is spearheaded by an embellished vocal performance by lead singer Anthony Shea, who sings of beaches, storms and isolation. 

The Lovepools are no strangers to musical inspiration from video games and this energetic single from them is no exception. Singer, Anthony Shea attributes much of the song's lyrical inspiration from the gaming title: "Stranded Deep" which is an ocean survival game involving a plane crash near a series of deserted islands. The single's artwork is also a direct inspiration from the graphics and visuals the game offers. 

One night while playing Stranded Deep, Anthony began to wonder what it would truly be like to attempt survival on a deserted island. Questions of isolation, civilization and moral philosophy began to present themselves to Anthony who quickly transmuted these ideas into song form which quickly became "Island Of My Own". 

Island Of My Own was written by Anthony Shea and completely produced, recorded and mixed in Anthony's bedroom with Aria Cruz lending a hand as co-producer. The band used "24K Gold" by Bruno Mars as their mixing guide-track and Anthony finished the song after 50 mixes. Latin Grammy winner, Jorge Espinosa of Tropic Culture Studios takes the role of mastering engineer which now marks his fourth completed master for the band.

Island Of My Own

A haunting and evocative journey awaits in "Something = Nothing," a mesmerizing blend of synth pop, psychedelia, house, and trap. Drawing inspiration from artists like Gorillaz, Beck and Radiohead, this melancholic production takes you on a sonic adventure.

The lyrics delve into the depths of a young girl's struggle with suicidal thoughts and an overwhelming desire for escape. Lead singer Anthony Shea's delicate vocal fry gently delivers the poignant lines:

"She's standing in the highway
Looking out for more
Cars headed her way
But their eyes are on the road"

The recurring lyric, "Something always leads to nothing, nothing always leads to something," not only delves into the human condition but also reflects the mindset of a depressed and searching young individual.

Crafted entirely by Anthony in the confines of his bedroom, this track showcases his prowess as a songwriter, producer, and mixer. Mastering was performed by none other than Tom Frampton, creator of "MasteringTheMix.com" who will be featuring Anthony's mix in a stem mixing contest, soon to be announced on his site. 

As the song gracefully draws to a close, an interpolated synth arpeggio, inspired by the enchanting melodies of The Legend of Zelda's "Great Fairy's Fountain," seamlessly fades into the abyss, leaving an indelible impression on the listener's soul.

Produced entirely in the band's bedroom, new single “Cut Me Slack” is built with pop-songwriting tendencies similar to Empire Of The Sun and Foster The People. Brimming with dreamy swells, synth riffs, processed samples and arpeggios, “Cut Me Slack!” is a continuation of The Lovepools driving synthpop and indie rock sound first established with their previous single, “White Lies & Palm Trees”. Backed by their label Sword Music under exclusive license to Sony Music Italy, “White Lies & Palm Trees” has gained over 20,000 Spotify streams and 35,000 YouTube views as well as appearing on MTV Italy and Italian radio since its May release date this year.

Phrases like, “Real love takes time,” and “We are the children hiding under the lights,” show the band refuses to let their hopes and dreams down, let alone anyone else's. Aria Cruz, bass player of The Lovepools, describes the song in a few sentences, “It’s about reaching for the highest star! The one you always wished upon when you were a child! The inner child viewing the adult version of you smiling… Knowing that you will never give up on your dreams.”

The Lovepools are following up their recent release “White Lies & Palm Trees” with their own home-made “Pool House Remix” of the previous single. The track was released October 2nd in Europe by label Sword Music in exclusive license with Sony Music Italy. 

As the song and video groove together, the journey of viewing one clip to the next is like flipping through a rolodex of 1980’s commercial imagery and undiscovered home footage. Edited by singer Anthony Shea, the music video reminds us there was once a time when car doors opened vertically, mullets were considered sexy and VHS was sold to consumers proudly labeled as “high definition”. The forgotten video footage lives to tells its story in a vaporwave aesthetic while the song seems to pull more from the “French House” genre than anywhere else. 

The "time-capsule” effect of viewing the music video show us how much the world has rapidly changed, especially its technology. One thing though that hasn’t really changed is society’s undying obsession with the 1980's decade.

White Lies & Palm Trees (Pool House Remix)

The Lovepools are a Los Angeles indie rock and synth pop group formed in 2017. The duo consists of Anthony Shea (Vocals, Guitars and Keyboards) and Devin McGee (Drums). After releasing two EP's The Lovepools released their first indie rock single, "See You In The Funny Papers" which can be seen on Showtime’s “Shameless” Season 9 Premiere.

In 2020 through 2021, the band signed with Sword Music in license with Sony Music Italy and released a series of singles including "White Lies & Palm Trees". This track was a departure from their guitar based indie rock roots towards a cleaner, dreamier synth-pop sound. The single was released by Sword Music in exclusive European license with Sony Music Italy and reached success in Italy, appearing on MTV and many other major Italian TV and radio stations.

After a near two year hiatus through the pandemic the group is is preparing for a set of new releases starting with upcoming synthpop single, "Something = Nothing" set to be released worldwide on September 15th, 2023
