A welcome returning figure to the Meanwhile Roster, Mike Rish is no stranger to success. With numerous cross-genre hits under multiple aliases, his own name sees him reach rarefied heights in the Progressive House genre with work signed to Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music, Guy J's Lost and Found and Praveen Achary's Juicebox Music.

December 2021 saw a Meanwhile debut with the sublime 3-track "Beyond" EP, while April 2023 witnessed a standout reworking of Jamie Stevens' "Storm Front". Returning for a second outing, his latest triple tracker opens with the funky rhythmic backdrop of "GT". Using an intricate percussive arrangement to provide a club-friendly foundation, a swathe of stereo-panned textures and synth effects meander across the opening movements, accompanied by delay-infused vocal cuts. A smooth arpeggio adds a touch of traditional progressive drive at the breakdown and beyond, while a further synth motif blossoms in the second half to sit alongside the rasping and explosive bassline.

Continuing the effects-laden narrative, "Shoreditch Funk" quickly makes its mark with a woodblock infused percussive top-line. Stereo-panned pads and saw-tooth synths pulsate in dizzying fashion while a grooved bassline adds dancefloor 'funk'. A cascading arp makes its presence felt, pitching in freeform oscillator glory at the break, before continuing unabated in detuned fashion throughout the second half. The result is a vibrant sonic collage that bristles with verve and innovation.

The final track witnesses another meticulously conceived rhythmic arrangement throughout "Reka", with a subtle bass sequence providing dancefloor sensibilities alongside a heavy 4/4 beat. An acetylene-torch lead mesmerises with its glissando phrasing while a glassy motif combines with gently pulsing pads that swim enticingly in smooth juxtaposition. Continuing themes redolent in previous outings, a beautifully imagined synth phrase syncopates in exquisitely cadenced rhythm alongside percussive counterparts. "Reka" then evolves into a delicately conceived melodic jewel in the latter stages.

"GT / Shoreditch Funk / Reka" continues to find Mike Rish very much at the leading edge of modern and pioneering Progressive House.

An artist who has spent his entire adult life working in the electronic music industry, Chris Zippel has been at the sharp end of the underground dance scene since the age of 15. Having worked with such illustrious stars as Robbie Williams, The Pet Shop Boys and Norah Jones, the Berlin-based artist has been a regular across some of dance music's esteemed imprints. His work for Ubersee Music, Elektrolux, Allisum and GMJ & Matter's Meanwhile Horizons, has given Chris a highly respected place at dance music's top table, as he now makes his Particles debut.

"Glossy" is an immaculately engineered offering that sparkles with progressive splendour. Full of percussive vibrancy and swung, head-shaking groove, a smooth bassline pattern adds subtle intensity to proceedings. Before long, a swathe of complementary melodic components make their play as cadenced plucks provide dancefloor character and a compelling, ceaseless energy. Through shaker pattern, well-placed clap and snare fills and a rising club-friendly pace, "Glossy" is a masterfully produced affair that is certain to find favour with DJs across the world.

Simos Tagias has played a significant part in Proton history with 30 production credits split across its labels. The "Airlock" and "Audacity" EPs in 2017 and 2018 saw the Greek artist chart a serene path through the Proton Music catalogue, as have a clutch of remixes for the likes of Dimuth K, LADS and GMJ. Similarly, the "Restricted Area" and "Drunk State" original tracks made their mark on Particles in 2014 before reworkings of Antrim and James Monro in 2017. Further remixes of Gaston Ponte and Tongue & Groove lit up the second half of 2022 and the early part of 2023 as Simos Tagias now returns to Particles for a seventh remix on the label.

Reworking "Glossy" with typically impressive flair, the core themes of the original form the basis for a new rhythmic pattern to revolve around a heavy beat and steady bassline sequence. An atmospheric vocal cut, drenched in delay adds atmosphere aplenty as trademark pads and enthralling chord progressions create multi-faceted layers of additional production. Building through a gloriously evocative breakdown, the second half blossoms into another dancefloor gem as a metrical synth pattern creates an imaginative and effortless remix.

Shining brightly with a "Glossy" and deftly produced original work, Chris Zippel is a welcome addition to the Particles roster.

Release Info: 
Sabo's record label, Sol Selectas drops a stunning organic house release from Yamil which also features remixes by Xinobi, Angelos and Derun.

Yamil is a Sol Selectas favourite whose last EP for the label was made in collaboration with German Brigante. He has also featured tracks on numerous compilations, and this is his first solo EP for the label.

Based in Spain, Yamil's style is a fusion of dramatic percussion and mesmerising synth lines that give his tracks a compelling sound. Along with Sol Selectas, Yamil has also featured his music on other labels ranging from MoBlack to Super Flu's Monaberry.

On remix duty, Xinobi is a Portuguese artist from Lisbon whose downtempo style ranges from indie dance to Afro house and he delivers an Afro house rework in the style he has championed via his own imprint Discotexas.

Angelos is a rising Greek star of the Afro house scene whose sound is a fusion of heavy percussion and invigorating synth lines. This remix follows his releases on other respected labels such as Rebellion, Saved Records, Madorasindahouse and Pets Recordings.

Derun are a Turkish organic house duo who have featured on numerous Sol Selectas releases along with other imprints ranging from 3000 Grad Records to Cosmic Awakenings, and their remix is in a sun-drenched style that blends flowing percussion and enchanting melodies.

"La Flor Colorada" is first of the three original tracks, and it opens the release with ethereal pads and vocal chants that are layered with upbeat percussion to create spinetingling atmosphere.

"Naidi" is laid-back track with a deep bassline and soothing flute combined with delicate vocal tones, poignant piano, and shuffling percussion.

Xinobi's remix of "Naidi" adds percussion with downbeat rhythms that give the track that stomping Afro groove. He also makes more prominent use of the original's piano chords while adding a complementary synth that has uplifting tones.

"Sanctuary" is a downtempo track with tense synths and vibrant percussion layered with mystical flutes that create a nomadic groove with desert vibes.

Angelos' remix of "Sanctuary" lifts the tempo and adds new synths plus makes more prominent use of the sitar style instrument and vocals from the original's spiritual breakdown.

Derun also remix "Sanctuary" and their up-tempo version adds psychedelic guitar licks and fast-paced percussion to fill the track with invigorating energy.
