Mango Alley / 2016 YEAR CHART

Recorded entirely on my iPad. This is an experimental piece featuring Brian Eno's "Scape" and embellished with drones from Samvada and spacial bell highlights from Grain Science.  Since Scape is not compatible with AudioBus, I output the recording to a portable digital recorder and imported the sound into Beatmaker 2.  AudioBus was used to record directly from Grain Science and Samvada and layered into the final tracks.  When I normalized the Scape sample, there was quite a bit of hiss, so I rand the final mix through Level.24 EQ.  I just listened to it in the car and it sounds a bit muddled.  I will boost the output and try re-recording Scape to get a better original signal to avoid normalizing.  My guess is it introduced audible artifacts that are unwanted in the final output.

Ovnimoon Records returns with style to the chill music field, presenting VA Paz Vol. 2, the second compilation under its “Paz” seal, which is Spanish for “Peace”. Ovnimoon joined an inspirational journey alongside Itzadragon for an absolute epic compilation of 160 minutes length. A deluxe Double CD edition featuring 20 gems of quality tracks ranging from Ambient, Downtempo to Progressive Chill, infused with touches of Spiritual, Emotional, Ethno and Psychedelic soundscapes. Hector Stuardo, aka Ovnimoon from Chile, is a well-known legend as a Psychedelic Trance composer. However, he also writes chill music under the alias OM, having produced 2 full-length albums of healing music and he also compiled the first volume of VA Paz. Also from Chile but resident in the UK, Itzadragon has been better known under her alias Dew, being the pioneer of transformational festival culture in South America, under Earthdance initiative since 1998, as well as an Ambient & Downtempo DJ since 2002. She is also co-producer of Magikana Festival in the UK. Ovnimoon & Itzadragon joined their sensitive approach to chill out music to present 20 outstanding works by masters from around the globe. Ambient & Downtempo tracks with a Spiritual, Ethno & Emotional touch by Ascent & Argus, Atom Based, Logical Elements, Metamorphosis, OM, Ren Toudu, Virlyn and Hataken featuring Naomi Jean in one of them. The Psychedelic Downtempo selection presents transcending creations by Biolab, Flux Natura, Twin Shape, Ovnimoon & Barby. The Progressive Chill ascension goes with fine works by Amos, Beat Thief, Dream Stalker and Solar Kid featuring Michele Adamson. VA Paz Volume 2 Compilation has been sealed with Healing Love. Certainly a "must have" for yoga & meditation sessions, light working, subtle dance and for all downbeat music lovers looking for ancient, spiritual and transcending psychedelic soundscapes.

Beyond moving bodies and stirring emotion, music can also be a powerful vehicle for social change. Every90Minutes, in conjunction with Gravitas Recordings, has curated a unique compilation of electronic music for an important cause. "Beat ALS" spans 17 tracks across a number of genres with 100% of the proceeds directly benefiting Every90Minutes, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to funding ALS research through music and events. The release features a truly memorable cast of international talent including Bassnectar, BT, Tritonal, Richie Hawtin, Dub FX, John Acquaviva, ill.gates, Matthew Dear, Machinedrum and many more. Track vibes ranging from dubstep to techno meet downtempo and cinematic sections with class, weaving a sense of poetic diversity throughout the album.

Jay Smith, the Founder of music tech company Livid Instruments, started Every90Minutes after his own diagnosis with ALS earlier this year. The Foundation is dedicated to funding the most promising research and treatment for ALS, and provides an inspirational beacon for others affected by his disease. Apart from the "Beat ALS" compilation, Every90Minutes is working on a number of multifaceted initiatives to raise both funds and awareness for ALS. Pedro Pimentel returns to Cryo Chamber with his second album on the label, Self Destruction Themes. This time with help from Amund Ulvestads beautiful cello performances, Simon Heaths textural piano work and Apocryphos atmospheric distortion layers. 

This is a massive album of cold but inviting atmospheres, filtered noise, acoustic layering and sweeping textural layers. The sad theme throughout the album paints images of a world depopulated and of overgrown and dilapidated cityscapes.
