This is a song about how we should be going forward but so often live in the past, without considering the future. Something funny in the tin. This song I loved very much in my youth fits in nowadays as well. You can have much fun with talking about nothing and hearing about nothing, but if you try to talk about really important things, you get the "Sound of Silence" in return.

I find the work Thomas Telford amazing.  He was a fantastic civil engineer.  I wanted to write a song to honor him and his work.

After completing this song, I was disappointed.  I felt the lyrics were more like a history book than an interesting story in song.  He deserves some better lyrics. 

I like the harmonies and feel of the song.   I ended the last verse with an excerpt from some of his poetry.  You can find the complete poem after the lyrics and references.

This song is in 5/4 time.  The emphasis is on the 1 and the 4 throughout the song.
