'Cheese Slices' is the third single from idiosyncratic Derry post-punk quartet Invaderband’s second album, Peter Gabriel, which received widespread critical acclaim, and plays on both Irish and UK National radio (RTE2 / Today FM / BBC Radio 6Music). The album was released last September and was placed at No. 17 in the Top 20 albums of 2021 by Danny McElhinney in The Irish Mail on Sunday.

Opening with a bright guitar line possibly channelled from The Stone Roses or The La’s, ‘Cheese Slices’ is a song drenched with cynicism; Frontman and songwriter Adam Leonard taking aim and pulling the lyrical trigger on an unnamed self-regarding band urging them to “Stop making music please ... you’re as interesting as cheese”.

‘I Won’t Remember You’ is the first single from Invaderband’s second album, Peter Gabriel - following up on their eponymous 2017 Northern Ireland Music Prize-shortlisted debut LP. Like the fruit of a now-lost collaborative project between Buzzcocks' Pete Shelley and Wire, it’s an immediately earworming punk-pop nugget that clocks in at just over 2 minutes. Accentuated with razor-sharp guitars and a singular voice, the track release is cut from a strain of garage-leaning art rock that embraces idiosyncrasy and eccentricity, à la Supergrass, Super Furry Animals, or Modern Life Is Rubbish-era Blur.

Invaderband - I Won't Remember You

Adam Leonard has quietly – and noisily – tinkered at the edges of eccentric English folk, electronic music, and garage Artrock with Invaderband, issuing numerous albums, singles and EPs of original music to much critical acclaim via highly regarded boutique labels such as The Great Pop Supplement, Northwestern Recordings, Tectona Grandis, Polytechnic Youth, Castles In Space, Bibliotapes and The Dark Outside on formats including 7” vinyl, 10” vinyl, 12” vinyl, cassette & compact disc.

Despite maintaining a low profile, the debut Invaderband album was shortlisted for the 2017 Northern Ireland Music Prize Album of the Year alongside The Divine Comedy, Hanna Peel etc, and has garnered praise from BBC Radio 6Music’s Steve Lamacq and Gideon Coe with repeat plays on their national radio shows. In 2021 a second Invaderband album ‘Peter Gabriel’ was released and in 2022 Leonard’s electronic side project A Farewell To Hexes released the ‘Rendlesham’ album which was featured on The Quietus.
