Ben Frost - Last Exit to Brooklyn

Every year we get to know new producers and labels that catch our attention, and Future Bones and Tici Taci rec. are without no doubt in that list, all the way up to the top.

They released their first self titled EP in March of this year on Tici Taci Records, followed by 2 more releases, 'Pain killer' and 'Dirty profit' and have done remixes for Rich Lane, Tronik Youth and Duncan Gray (this last one to be released in December 2014).  We will be also releasing a track of them on Play Pal's new comp, beginning of next year and are excited to know it will just be the first one.

A unique blend of electronica, live instruments and vocals that makes them definitively one of our favourite artists of the moment and it's our pleasure to consider them part of the Play Pal crew.

Future Bones Collection 2014

One of the good surprises from 2014 was finding out about these two french producers or more fairly, musicians. It is not common being so known within our scene and haven't yet released almost any of your tracks but that's the case of these 2 guys. They've been focusing on producing for 2 years and it is now when several of their best jobs will finally see the light.

The only track they've released so far it's a remix they did of the tune 'Tears' by Date With Elvis, earlier released on La Dame Noir Rec. Starting next month, we'll be finally seeing their debut on Astro Lab with the track 'I Wanna See The Light' (only Ivan Smagghe's remix has been released so far), an outstanding remix of Mushrooms Project's 'Yess' we'll have the pleasure to include on the next Play Pal Ep and in March, finally their debut on Correspondant with the track that got the attention of most of us, 'Something Is Wrong', already an anthem for some of us who've been playing it for a year. On top of all that, we'll be including their track 'Galactic Pot Healer' on Play Pal's next comp out in April. And that's just the beginning of the year.
Their sound could be described as a cross between new wave, psychedelia, a passion for synths and anything in between as showed in the mix they've recorded for our Series. The first hour more conceived as a selection of tracks and the second one as a proper mix.

Really happy to have them on board on the label, definitively one of the artists to watch out in 2015 and the following years.

When you already like a producer's work very much, have been playing his tracks for many years, know he's one of the references in our scene and looking for more detailed info to use on this text, the first thing you read on his bio is this: "Tronik Youth has remixed over 75 records over the last ten years and released over a dozen singles", not sure what else can you add to that...but to mention also Nein Records, the label he runs with his friend and partner Ian Considine since 2012, has also become one of the main labels within our scene, counting both with renowned and young artists but keeping always the quality of their releases at the top.

Like the 2 hours set he's recorded exclusively for us, full of great unreleased and released stuff.

Return of the redeye

Superhappy to have mixtape master and space commander Stu Mills aka themills23 on the show! Millsy is a self-confessed musical hobbyist whose sonic roots lie in the halcyon progressive house era and his monthly pilgrimage to John Digweed’s hallowed Bedrock nights in London.
Over time, his musical interests and BPMs have shifted towards the downtempo indie house style, drawing inspiration from Andrew Weatherall, Sean Johnston and a cast of excellent DJs who have paved the way before him.
Millsy is often recognised for creating sets that blend lesser-known tracks with unique melodies and recognisable remixes. He’s kept things close to his progressive roots here, with a mix that offers listeners what he considers a few classics of the indie genre, alongside more up-tempo tracks to get the feet moving (but never quite breaking that magical 118 BPM limit). Enjoy!

Up next on our Phonica Mix Series is the Lecce born and Berlin based Massimiliano Pagliara!

The last time we saw Massi he was playing an in-store event for us here at Phonica and the crowd absolutely loved it! We’ve always been big fans of him here at the shop for his outstanding productions which have landed on labels such as ‘Live At Robert Johnson’ on ‘Rush Hour’ but Massi has been a DJ much longer than he’s been a producer and the vast amount of experience he has acquired playing at some of the best underground spots around the world simply can’t be ignored. Recently he’s also been welcomed into the Ostgut family with a spot on their agency’s roster and things seem to only be getting better. Massi describes his style behind the decks as an eclectic mix of House, Disco, Electro and Techno. His selection always pays homage to the past while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of dance music into the future. He also reflects this ethos in the studio where he experiments with new techniques on old analogue synthesizers. With a background in Dance and Choreography, Massimiliano definitely knows what it takes to get you moving and we couldn’t be happier with the extended and eclectic mix he prepared for us today.

Millsy is a self-confessed product of the online music consumption era.  He has replaced the countless hours digging the crates at record stores such as the Music & Video Exchange in Notting Hill and Camden, London with scouring the web for sonic tidbits.
 
“The best bit about creating these online mixes is sourcing the tracks,” he enthuses. “The beauty of Soundcloud, Bandcamp and even YouTube is you can uncover gems from all corners of the musical spectrum, and a lot faster than flicking through dusty crates in a London basement. I still get the same buzz from finding something unique, just a bit more often, which is nice.”
 
A convert to digital DJing from vinyl (he bypassed the CDJ era as he was forging a career and having a family), Millsy focuses his mixes on building and sustaining mood. “I hate to use the word ‘journey’ as it’s a massive cliché, but as these aren’t live mixes in a club it’s the best I can do,” he says. “I guess this is the sort of thing I would play if let loose on a big Function One soundsystem, but could work just as well in your headphones at home. Either way, I hope you enjoy listening!”
