Honest Work is back with the best from Berlin's underground club scene. This week we have Chris a.k.a. Sparkling Water Dreams for a solid 3 hours live on-air with host John Crosby. If you're out in the clubs in Berlin, you know Chris from his many sets at Tresor and Renate, and also from his latest EP release on Spencer Parker's Work Them Records. 

This is the first two hours of airtime, where Chris and John chat a bit about Chris' origin story + the last hour or so is a live mix from Chris, including some unreleased productions and deep house cuts.

A wonderful little b2b session with Sparkling Water Dreams and John Crosby, recorded live on THF Radio.

If you are in the clubs in Berlin on a regular basis, you know Chris a.k.a. Sparkling Water Dreams. His warm-yet-powerful sets at places like Tresor, Renate, and the (since-closed, R.I.P.) Waterfloor at Watergate Club show a range and depth of house music not normally associated with the German capital. He's also a producer, holding both self-released tunes and his recent EP on Spencer Parker's Work Them Records. 

This is the last hour (and change!) of the recording, an impromptu b2b that really twists and turns and yet somehow becomes more interesting with every listen. Enjoy.

Tbilisi’s @ETERRR could easily be considered somewhat of a musical activist, which has seen a steady rise in her underground presence over the last year. Recently she took this crusade further when she co-founded the deviant event series Riot Forge, supplying the city with another creative string to its bow.

Her far-reaching musical knowledge has formed her a reputation for sets that bounce easily between genres - but this ability isn’t without careful deliberation on her part. The young artist’s intention of unifying her audience into one rhythmic collective always runs true when she steps up to play. With line-up curation and wild bookings already under her belt, ETERR is showing all the signs of hitting her stride this year.

'This is 74 minutes of music, mixed and recorded in my home and played on two turntables.
For the past couple of years, I have been learning vinyl mixing, and I’m beginning to feel a level of control and understanding that makes me feel comfortable sharing my efforts.
One thing that I’m consciously aware of when selecting and mixing, is to find the right balance between the repetitive and monotonous aspect of the music on one hand, and the wide variety in the different expressions and aesthetics of techno music on the other. If there is too little variation, it gets boring, and if there is too much variation, it loses that hypnotic drive that is most important for me. I often find it useful to think of DJ sets as narratives. As story-telling. You want things to happen, you know? You want to go to different places and experience different sensations. Suspense, drama, relief, emotions – things like that.

Another thing that I consider key to developing my practice is learning to do proper transitions. Long smooth blends, quick cuts, all of that - I want to learn to mix in all those ways, so I can put the right technique to use when it’s needed. I like when an artist is consciously
manoeuvering between different ways of mixing – it makes it more exciting and less predictable to listen to.

Then there is the aspect of timing. Oh, timing is everything! Part of the timing thing is sort of intuitive, but a big part of it is about getting to know your tracks, memorizing them. This is a challenge for any DJ, but particularly for vinyl DJs, since there is no waveform representation of the track to guide you, no cue points, etc. Just to point this out – I’m not saying that I am particularly good at any of the above-mentioned aspects of DJing – in fact, I’m a total amateur – but these are some of the things that I’m trying to develop and improve in my work.

Née dans la jolie ville de Lublin, @aneta-jot réside maintenant à Cracovie en Pologne. 
Très impliquée dans le développement de la scène locale, elle rejoint l'équipe du @szpitalna1 à la programmation des soirées open platines. Elle s'occupe maintenant du booking au STK47 Warehouse, probablement le club le plus underground de Cracovie. Elle organise aussi ses propres soirées avec ses comparses @rraphmusic et @second-part-aka-diabot, le trio étant connu sous le nom de Vultur crew. En tant que DJ, ses sets de techno rythmique et émotionnelle l'ont amenée à jouer un peu partout en Europe, aux côtés d'artistes comme @kangding-ray, @melania_dot, @stephanie-sykes, @introversion_berlin ou @cleric.
