The Emperor Machine is Andy Meecham, producer extraordinaire and erstwhile member of dance music legends Bizarre Inc., dub disco aficionados Chicken Lips and punk funk dark horses Big Two Hundred. The Emperor Machine is Andy’s most passionate project that sees his fetishism for analogue synthesizers and radiophonic noise spilling out of his studio and into the world.

With over thirteen releases for DC Recordings, including two albums, in less than five years, not to mention remixes of everyone from Moby to Daft Punk, Royksopp to Stephen Malkmus, The Emperor Machine has rapidly ascended to cult status, with each 12” single becoming the focus of collectors and DJs alike, adorned as they are with the iconic graphic art of La Boca.

2008 has seen the advent of The Emperor Machine Live for the first time ever. Recruiting a cast of the finest musicians and visual artists, Meecham has put together an awe inspiring live act that blends his distinctive analogue sound with the fervor and psychedelia of live drums and guitar respectively, plus visuals which animate the sumptuous artwork with which The Emperor Machine has become associated.

Boards of Canada is a Scottish electronic music duo comprised of brothers Mike Sandison (b. 1 June 1970) and Marcus Eoin (b. 21 July 1971). 

They have released a number of works, most notably Music Has the Right to Children and Geogaddi, with little advertising and few interviews. Their sound has frequently made reference to sounds of the 1970s and the 1980s. It recalls, amongst other things, the warm, scratchy, artificial sounds of 1970s television, and indeed, band members Michael and Marcus admit to being inspired by the documentary films of the National Film Board of Canada, from which the group's name comes.

Squirrels, robots, subversions, perversions & badgers; just some of themes associated with DC Recordings. It's been like this for over ten years and it ain't gonna change. It's our own fault (we've encouraged it), and with J Saul Kane steering the ship, it was perhaps inevitable that this would be the case. 

Rising from the ashes of Vinyl Solution in 1995, the plucked phoenix that is DC Recordings was originally formed as an outlet for Kane's wayward audio adventures. Almost immediately, like-minded artists began to gravitate towards his obviously creaky ship and, over sixty releases later, the ship is (somewhat remarkably) still afloat.

With a catalogue that boasts an array of ground breaking contemporary artists as well as exclusive issues of lost sound tracks and Holy Grail hip hop classics, DC Recordings is a label that has survived by refusing to compromise its singular and willfully idiosyncratic vision.
