Francis Inferno Orchestra is Griffin James, a young and talented DJ and music producer from Melbourne. He released various 12"s on labels like Let's Play House, Wolf Music and FINA to name just a few. We believe that he could become a major player of this scene as his musical skillz and his sounds impressed us.

On this 12" he shows us two different sides of his output. The soulful „Amber Express“ could be an hommage to Moodymann's excellent work, similar to "You're The One" whereas "Dreamtime" and "Dusty Echoes" refer more to the Dub and Techno influenced corner of dance music. We were simply overwhelmed by this tracks and the reactions we had, playing them out was great.

Anyway, listen and decide yourself, we hope you enjoy it too.

It’s a very exciting time for Soul Of Hex right now.  Not only have they hit upon a rich vein of creative inspiration and clearly loving every second of being in the studio making some brilliant music, but the young duo from Tijuana also seem to be inadvertently, or maybe purposefully, shaping a fresh new direction for the Mexican house scene. Taking influences from Detroit via Berlin, and with a knowledge of house, jazz, funk, soul and disco which goes way beyond their years Sebastien Vorhaus and 4004 are in the vanguard of this new generation of house producers and are already making their mark worldwide through releases on CVMR, MCDE, Faces and their own Vicario LTD imprint. 

With close links to, and a residency at The Wherehouse club in Tijuana, a Boiler Room set under their belt, a blistering live set currently being prepped, a remix and support from Larry Heard and further releases scheduled for Quintessentials and Faces, we’re happy to have got in quick while we have the chance and can present to you this lovely release entitled The Muth. 

Opening up we have The Third Eye, defined by a slowly modulating rhodes pad, octave bassline and a dusty drum groove to move you.  Next up is The Muth, another killer bassline (giving us a good idea that Vorhaus is in fact himself a bass player, despite this being a sample - the clue’s in the title!).  Laid back sunshine vibes all round with sporadic rhodes and tropical percussion fills. 

Flipping over we have a remix from hotly tipped Londoner Henry Wu.  Who other than the Peckham-based beatmeister and Jimpster’s favorite new producer to work his magic?  And work it he does!  Vibes for days on this one, adding his own unique sound to the existing parts.  Closing out the EP we have a third original going by the name Sly Batuque.  Once again the boys have got that sample heavy chopped up MPC groove down to a fine artform and it provides another example of why Soul Of Hex are about to cause such a stir.

We’re convinced Strangelove’s on a mission to bring people together. With this second EP on Smile for example, he seems to have put Kenny Dixon and possibly Otis Redding together on “Truly Lonely”, while “Oh Yeah” sounds like he had Kevin Saunderson and Sly Stone perhaps to show the light to Jake and Elwood Blues in some Tenessee church. It sounds like he got the likes Steve Miller and Barry White to jam out under a palmtree under the watchful guidance of Dimitri From Paris on “Backseat Rain”. What makes this stuff so great is that all this makes perfect sense. Even more so it’s Strangelove’s ability to skillfully build these tracks up to unsuspectedly grab you by the cojones at just the right moment until enchantment is the only appropriate term left.

Three tracks to be reckoned with. Each different, but all truly soulful and effective to the max.

For his remix contribution to Neovinyl's latest V/A, Till Von Sein fattens up the groove with a big kick and 808-layered clap, laying down some extra hats to formalize this as a heavier-use remix. Gone is the looser, sample-based bassline of the original - replaced by a more controlled, driving synth bass under the sweet guitar strums. The track builds towards it's climax via some afro-brazilian drum breaks and vocal samples, before dropping into a tighter interpolation of arguably the tastiest sample from Babak's piece. It's a delicate and playful lead that rides the song to it's conclusion. All in all, a short but sugary arrangement that could do wonders slid in as a change of pace during a peak hour set.

We've been long term fans of Session Victim now, so we're excited to host this blunted, jazzy excursion where their beloved Juno 106 takes centre stage alongside beautifully warm live drums. Throw in some vocoder and you've got one hell of a jam here. Their productions are always without fail, recorded and mixed to perfection. The warmth of it all just wraps you up in a big fat duvet.

Time flies when you’re having fun and we can’t fathom how this can be Ben Sun’s 5th EP for Delusions Of Grandeur but it’s true enough and once again he comes up trumps in the form of the Place Of Worship EP. Having previously graced such esteemed imprints as Royal Oak, Tru Thoughts, Ra- zor n Tape as well as his own vinyl-only label Voyeurhythm the London based Australian producer continues to be both highly regarded, yet some- what under the radar but we’re sure that’s about to change with this incredi- ble new three tracker.

Opening up we have See It Come Shining, just the kind of life-affirming club track which seem to be in such short supply these days, but that we need now more than ever. Gospel flavoured piano chords tug on the heart strings whilst a simple, raw disco groove with added 909 punch creates a warmth and energy that transcends the dance floors that it’s destined to liberate.

Flipping over we have Oceanways T150, a deep, analogue jam that harks back to simpler times when breakbeats collided with a house thump, uplifting pianos meld into punching basslines and discovering music through muffled old cassette mixtapes or patchy pirate radio reception was all we knew.

Rounding off the EP we have the perfect closer Atlantis Transfer. Here Ben puts more early influences into the mixing pot with ambient washes cascad- ing down over a sublime 90’s deep house bassline. Analogue hats and tripped-out sound FX skirt around a naive synth melody making for a heady late night treat to get lost in.
