The next instalment in the Phase Group Mix series is delivered by dear friend and contributing artist to the label, Low Bat. 

Low Bat lives amongst the black coal hills of northern France. When he isn’t marking textbooks and exposing Neue Deutsche Welle to the classrooms, the French DJ, musician and teacher keeps himself busy playing with his band Jean Luc, co-running the Yellow Light of Death festival and curating radio as 1/3 of the team behind Tblisi’s Mutant Radio. 

On top of this, he makes up 1/2 of Lowspace, the newest additions to Phase Group, who’s split tape with Lostsoundbytes will be coming out in December

His Phase Group Mix is a masterfully sequenced mad ride through post punk, psych rock, French trip hop, and proto trance. Thanks Louis!

Sonic storytelling from Glasgow's ambient power duo Somewhere Press. The mix is, according to Caapi and Lizzie Urquhart, a musing on the Divine Feminine, which got me thinking about something James Hillman, archon of all things archetypal, said about the study of Beauty. Apparently (so says James) the ancient root of the word "Aesthetics" comes close to meaning "I breathe in" and the mixes, releases and vibe of Somewhere Press has certainly breathed something beautiful into Glasgow's musical landscape. We hope you enjoy this latest Forecast addition and urge you to keep an eye out for the upcoming "The Blue Hour" compilation coming out soon via Boomkat. while we're looking to the near future and 'Charly Markarian - Jeunesse ne passe pas' publication, we're keeping an eye on the past. Inviting today on Bamboo Shows guestmix series dear metra.vestlud, who released last year on our label the magnificent 'Coalyqsta' cassette album. The Russian artist, through his 'Kundalini Shaktipata' mix, gathered 1 hour and 45 minutes of spiritual fourth-world, meditative drone, avant-garde jazz, neoclassical acts and blissful new-age... all explanations below:

"This mix is a ritual instrument aimed at awakening the hidden divine force - Kundalini - within a person.

There are two approaches to awakening Kundalini: active and passive.
The active approach includes yoga practices, meditation, and special breathing techniques.
The passive approach is when you need to surrender and let go of all obstacles on the path to awakening.
The key in the passive approach is Shaktipat. Shaktipat is a message, phrase, or word. In this case, this mix is a transmission of knowledge from higher consciousness.

Shaktipat only temporarily raises Kundalini but provides an experience that can be used as a foundation for further development.

For almost two decades Jeffrey has been a programmer in the underground cinemas of Amsterdam, describing himself as a 'cultural activist'. In this podcast he and Vanja explore diverse soundtracks to neglected and forgotten movies. When the use of music in modern cinema has become clichéd and standardized, perhaps it is better to turn to the abandoned past for inspiration. Therefore in this podcast-journey there is an emphasis on delving into uncharted territory—secret places of mystery and otherworldly alternatives. Jeffrey feels it's in these buried treasures that a hard-hitting counter-culture can be envisioned. During our discussions in between the music tracks there is also an attempt to create a different idea about how music can be used in movies, one where the music clashes against the image rather than melting together with it emotionally.

This selection of music soundtracks traverses many parts of the world, embracing directors like Andrzej Żuławski, Kenneth Anger, Marguerite Duras and Shuiji Tereyama... and features music by Jean Guérin, Andrzej Korzyński, Bernard Parmegiani, Wanda Warska and Toru Takemitsu among many others.
