Faisant suite au succès du premier volet sur lequel on retrouvait le duo Hoosky, Just A Lil' Beat vol.2 voit enfin le jour avec la paire Mr Hone et Geteye, deux beatmakers issus des succulentes compilations La Boulangerie.

Le son deep house et post dubstep du vendéen Mr Hone se mélange à la perfection avec le boombap « Madlibien » du Nantais Geteye. L'art du sampling est brillamment mis a l'honneur sur cet opus.

Dan Shake is probably best known more recently for being the first non-Detroit native to release on Moodyman’s legendary Maohgani Music label - and that was with this debut release, ever! Having built his name across the UK and overseas with regular shows at London’s Corsica Studios Sessions, Dimensions Festival and Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide to name but a few, Dan dropped his debut release via Mahogani music in early 2014, following up with a sold-out release on Bristol based Black Acre this year. Now the respected selector teams up with Wolf Music regular Medlar and joins the Delusions Of Grandeur family (home to the likes of Session Victim, 6th Borough Project and Toby Tobias) with the funk fuelled Walk EP.

As all dance music fans know, Miami Music Week is one of the most important events in the industry calendar. And for Cr2, their annual Miami compilation has become the most important album of the year, with 2016’s effort bringing in over 10,000,000 streams on Spotify alone. 

For 2017 the label has gone all-out, enlisting trap lord UZ and Haitian superstar Michael Brun to mix and curate alongside a collective of key Cr2 producers and DJs aptly known as Cr2 Allstars. SHDW002 arrives with a pumping kick and a gorgeous guitar loop. As the filter opens, the landscape widens – laidback percussion, then soothing strings, before a powerful hit of bass and vocals, and we’re off. Two Tail’s ‘Willie Has A Hunch’, grooves along blissfully, before a spoken word sample comes to twist the meaning and flip the mood. ‘You’ve Got Me’, is an appropriate title for a Harry Parsons track where a percussive groove, staccato horns, and those handclaps grip the listener and never relinquish control the result being a thoroughly enjoyable 6 minutes of communal dancefloor goodness.

Tribal percussion ushers in Side B, as Alex Wooley begins to build ‘Walkin’ Away’ around a yearning and disheartened vocal sample. Despite the free-flowing instrumentation, the vocals maintain a subtle air of melancholy, which anchor this track in raw, remorseful emotion. Mr Lover Lover concludes proceedings with a confident swagger. ‘I Would (Like To Get To Know)’ flips Brandy’s ‘I Wanna Be Down’ into an enticing dancefloor shaker - the perfect closer.
